How do you access the forum?
I've recently started using the TapaTalk app to start accessing the forum and upload pics. It does cost a lot (for an app imo) to avoid the barrage of ads. I'm just wondering how other people prefer to read updates and share on here? Getting in front of a PC is something I do less and less of.

Two ways:
1. Firefox with AdBlock Plus on Xubuntu Linux laptop
2. Firefox with AdBlock Plus on Android phone (not using tapatalk)
Never seen a single advert on this site, not one ever.
I also have signatures hidden because they're a colossal waste of space.

Yes. I'm a fan of Linux, Android and Firefox and not a fan of ads. The Tapatalk app is a specific app designed to access multiple forums and it formats the conversations for mobile users. I'm just wondering whether it's worth paying to remove their own ads or whether the free ways are a match. I'm struggling to get the site to scale up for mobile. This is how Tapatalk renders the forum, which I like.gn2 wrote:Two ways:

Just Google the forum. Go on it. No ads. Simplegn2 wrote:Two ways:

iPad.
I think it suggested Taptalk the first time I visited the forum, but not since.

Re: How do you access the forum?
I'm probably not being clear. It's not so much the ads. I'd like the page to render like it does on TapaTalk (screenshot above) rather than the way it does on Google/Firefox on my mobile - screenshot below. I can't read the web version on my 6" mobile screen without faffing around, zooming in and out and rotating the screen. Just wondering if there's a free way to render the forum in a readable way similar to Tapatalk (which charges if you want to kill the ads).Just Google the forum. Go on it. No ads. Simple

When I use my mobile I rotate it to landscape and use zoom, works easy enough.

Re: How do you access the forum?
I have had an AcerC720 Chromebook for about 5 years now. Great battery, speed, boot-time (under 10 seconds), (ZERO-hassle and immediate) updates, unbreakable OS and price. I was able to swap out the 32GB m.2 ssd for a 120GB one and dual-book Ubuntu. My 5 year old son also uses it now, so I have him on a managed Google account. He can't search the web and only accesses a limited number of sites that I permit. For £179, I've had the best return ever from any piece of tech that I have ever purchased. There are of course home-networking and app limitations, but I think they're finally introducing Windows shares in upcoming releases.

My current laptop is an Asus F9E which I bought in July 2008 for £340 reduced from £500
Despite being ten years old it still goes like greased weasel poop courtesy of Xubuntu and an SSD upgrade three years ago.
The reasons I got the Chromebook are the ability to hot swap to Xfce using Crouton, the fast booting and the battery life.
And the obvious: it isn't Windows or a Mac

Re: How do you access the forum?
Yes - all good stuff. I bought a pen/touch Windows tablet from China a few years ago, and that side of Windows is ahead of linux and can be fun. ChromeOS is catching up with pen-support. Updating Windows on a 64GB ssd is less inviting than the pox.
