I'm about to take my scooter down to the Keys and the weather is not favorable. I have a hitch-mounted carrier and it is not advisable to cover it do to chafing. OK, so it gets spray from the vehicle, but what will be the least invasive way to get the road crap off (possibly salt) off the scooter?
There's a front moving in that may last for for several States along the way. I know it will be trashed!

"Salt Terminator" sold at most dealerships here in Florida, works really well.

Plant of cold clean water is good for removing salt. Then wash as normal

Should be fine -- I rode my PCX on the beach, and it still looks like new.

Shoe, why not liberally spray a rag with something easy like Pledge wax? Spread it all over the bike (except seat/floorboards/tires/). When you reach the Keys the shitey stuff should come off easier. I hate salt! The seat can be covered with plastic wrap. I would not cover the bike with a cover or plastic (shrink) wrap. Covers flap and loosen, also scratch the bike in the process. A local buddy of mine details professionally, and I used to as an amateur.
There's a product called opticoat. Its a permanent paint protection system that costs 60 usd to purchase, and will prevent swirls and scratches on bikes.
