"Where the Hell is Irish Murph?"

A crasy irish/american travelling around the world on his bike. At present he came driving into Alta, far north in Norway, Europe. There is wintertime now, minus 10 to 15 degrees C, but is seems not to bother him so much. He is on his way to the North Cape and he is trying to collect some money for cancer research. He has called his journey for "Ride away cancer".

The pictures on his website are even cooler. That thing is outfitted with all sorts of awesome stuff. The bike's a complete custom beast, custom tailored for his adventuring. I mean, look at this thing:



See that thing coming left off the rear wheel? Yeah, the sidecar is powered too, for better traction. It's a powered sidecar.


I don't see why he uses a tent though -- I'd sleep in the sidecar with a configuration like that.


Kinda makes you want to go explore. Too bad I've got work.

Sorry, that should have said "see that thing coming right" -- the axle is on the right side of the back axle, from left to right to the tire of the sidecar.

ooh those photos are amazing!!! dang! This is one true adventurer!

Yeah it sure does make you wanna get out and go somewhere without a worry. I have been trying to figure a plan for this coming new years but its been quite hectic financially.

Living on a limited budget with limited friends who can go on such an adventure. I was hoping to hit the road for maybe 4 or 5 days. Just DRIVE! Drive without a worry in the World. No phone, no watch, no internet. Just me and my PCX.

Still trying to get this idea sorted by the way...the missus is not supportive of my trip though, but then again, most women here aren't adventurous.

I've convinced my wife to take a trip with me all the way up the East Coast of the USA next spring. It'll take two weeks, and cover over 3000 miles. Unfortunately, the PCX isn't quite fast enough for the freeways we have to take up North, so I'm selling my Silverwing and getting a PC800 to take the trip on. I'll probably post a mini-blog of the trip after we go.

Is the PC800 an automatic?

No, 5 speed manual. It has a dual trunk, huge fairings, and feels light as a feather compared to a Silverwing. It's also shaft-driven with hydraulic valves, so you keep tires on it, and change the oil (the tranny and engine oil is all the same system) and it'll run for 200k+ miles. There's a guy on a PC800 messageboard that has over 300k miles on a stock PC800, still rolling along on the first engine, no rebuild needed yet.

Those pc800s look like excellent bikes. We can only get them as imports or the next best alternative, the dullville. Never understood why Honda didn't develop the concept

Don't ever call yjr Deauville dull unless you have ridden one!! The Deau can keep pace very well and can be riden with gusto! I know I have one. I now have the 700 version but also had a 650 version too.

it looks very 80's that red one of Maddiedog. Nice ride! Classic. But if I'd want a cross country tourer I'd go with a KAWASAKI VERSYS 650. It's only a 650 but the weight of a 650 should be good enough for some thrashing in the gravel and dirt if compared to the monstous BMW GS those guys used in LONG WAY ROUND back in 2004. BTW what were they? 600cc? 100cc?

Do you guys know the VERSYS?

My Cuz has a Versys and does a lot of 2 up touring with lots of luggage and loves it. There is also the Suzuki V-strom 650 which I prefer. Those BMW's were 1150GS for the Long Way round and current model is 1200GS. They also come with a BMW price tag

I've ridden three. They are good bikes but not the most exciting. Worthy rather than skirt lifters. Perversely my wife had a Bros which I liked and she thought was as dull as dishwater
