Hi there guys,
Got my first brand new PCX last week and its been an absolute dream, I love it so much but there is 1 thing I wish I could change.
Essentially the last bike I owned was a Honda Dylan 125 2007 and due to my work I need to keep my phone charged up as its pretty much in constant use, so I went on Amazon as you do and bought myself a USB charger that connected straight to the battery via a few cables which was really handy since I could sit on the bike while the engine was off and charge my phone (the charger did have an off switch so I'd turn it off when it wasn't in use)
Anyway I noticed the charger on my 2018 PCX only charges when the lights are on and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to connect it straight up to the battery and use it like that way?
Worst comes to worst I'll pick up a power bank and just use that but its still worth looking into as i'd rather just use the bikes charger as thats what its there for.
Thank you guys for reading as well as any help or advice you could give me.
Joel

I don’t have a charger on my bike so can’t say from experience but in theory it should be quite simple.
You just need to change the live feed from a switched/accessory one to a continuous one.
Is the charging socket removable to get to the wiring and connector?

If you owned a Dylan then you are from the U.K.? Or Europe somewhere?
On our side of the pond they sell portable solar chargers for phones that aren't that expensive. Some people call them power banks.
If you need to charge your device(s) when your PCX isn't running. . .thus running down your scooter battery. . .I think the portable solar charger/power bank is a good idea as you mentioned.
Plus if you have an office job with a window you can just leave it in the sun all day.
Also think of the other opportunities, camping, boating, picnics etc. . .. You can charge up your device almost anywhere. . .just pray it doesn't rain.
You can avoid having to do surgery on your PCX wiring system and still be able to use the charging port when you ride. Up to you. . ..
Here's an example.

It's only about 6 inches x 3 inches and not too thick. For around $20 U.S. Dollars it is an option.

Re: Have a question about my PCX 2018 and its cigarette char
I have a Battery Tender, so I have the leads that attach directly to the battery. I needed a way to run my dashcam that I attached to my windshield. I bought the item I am providing a link to. It connects to those leads so it is hot all the time, but it has an on/off button on it that allows me to turn it off when I am not using the bike. I ran the wires from the battery, through the seat hinge. Instead of attaching it to my handlebar, which is easy enough, I used Velcro to attach it to the the plastic in a discreet place. This might be an option for you.

By the way, the built in port on the PCX has a small current capacity, which would be fine for your phone but not much else. That is why I purchased the external USB port.

The pre-2018 models have an ignition switched cigarette style outlet in the glvoe box which is fused at 5A's.

I know that I read somewhere that the accessory port has a 2 amp limit.

Re: Have a question about my PCX 2018 and its cigarette char
on 2018 PCX in the US it is a 1 amp max draw.
Not even enough to charge a modern smart phone at full power. But, for that, the easiest thing is to have an external powerbank, such as this https://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc-10000mAh ... WERQRJN5K0
The port will be quite useful to power a gps navigator though.
