Oil going low
Hi everyone,
recently noticed, that oil in my pcx125 (31k miles on the clock, most of milage is done on 65mph, so hi revs)) started to go low , so i looked around for oil leaks -nothing, tried to start cold and check for exhaust smoke- nothing, acceleration didn't change, decided to note down how much oil i add when topping up and it is 500ml per 1000miles, tried to find oil consumption figures for pcx 125 - didn't succeed. From what i think it is A LOT of oil ..
The only thing i can think off is that i done valve clearance adjustment 20k miles ago - coz engine sounds good see bo reason to do it, but maybe im wrong and valve clearance is to blame?

Re: Oil going low
My vote for cause of oil consumption: "125cc at 65mph for 31,000 miles"
Don't think valves are involved here.

Re: Oil going low
it is more 60-65 mph depends whether I'm going uphill or downhill.
so if I always do long runs on full throttle it burns oil?

Re: Oil going low
oil change every 1.5-2k
Re: Oil going low
Your consumption is significant. ....probably not completely out of order considering having been run 31,000 miles at WOT.
At what mileage did you notice this consumption?
A valve check at the recommended miles is a good idea.....but won't fix your oil use. Riding habits did that.

Re: Oil going low
Retry, your not alone in your experience. I have a 2013 150 PCX, now up to 51,000km or about 30,000miles. I find the need to top up my oil to the sum of about 250ml every 1000km. Or 50ml per fil up roughly. I recognize my riding habbits have contributed to the wear, but figure since I just love riding this scoot I will just enjoy it. When my oil consumption exceeds my fuel consumption, time to rebuild the engine.
Already have the parts in the garage for when that day comes.
Personally, I would not worry about it, just check your oil every fillup. If you plan on rebuilding the engine, you could start pricing out the parts and some how too videos. The manual is a must as well.
Just my 2 cents worth. Personally, I am set on rolling 100,000km.

Could you advise me what parts need to be replaced? Rings on pistons or piston with the rings+ cylinder head ( due to cylinder wall wear)?
i have full manual and some experience, the only thing i don't have- is time

72 pounds and 2-3 days of work with some beer

Re: Oil going low
Looks like you are from the UK judging from your link. The
Kit you linked has it all. I also included a timing chain, timing chain tensioner as I hear they are prone to go after 50k km. But the kit is a solid start. Just source out a supplier for the odd bits and pieces you may need while doing the job. Being in Canada, I use babbittsonline. Have been very happy with them and they have the same schematic breakdown as my Honda dealer. Makes part identification a breeze.

Re: Oil going low
One last thing, just my opinion, stick with Honda factory parts. Saves compatibility issues.

Re: Oil going low
Speaking of oil, I just now finished changing the oil on my PCX. I dont have a stand to put the bike on when changing the oil or doing maintenance, but it had to be done, soooo...
When I change the oil on my bikes I note it on some white duct tape I put on the swingarm. As long as you clean the arm to remove all grease, it sticks quite well.

Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150
Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

I write the same on final blank pages of owner's manual, kept under the seat.

One other suggestion might be to switch to a heavier weight motor oil to help slow consumption. You might see a very slight decrease in fuel efficiency, but I doubt it if you're riding WOT most of the time. I used to run 15W-40 conventional oil in my 1980 Honda Super Cub here in Northern Colorado without any issues other than slow starts in sub-freezing temps. Similarly, I've been using 15W-50 full synthetic in my PCX for the past few years. I'm thinking of changing over to 0W-40 for a little better MPG, but it's not the best choice if you're trying to limit consumption.
