I picked up a kymco xciting 500Ri 2008 maxi scooter. 14,000km, tires Michelin city grips 75% left. Newer belt.
Gentleman 83, lost controll of it when putting on stand and it fell over, scratching the plastics on one side. But not too bad. So he decided to sell it. Paid 1000. For it.
I am not familliar with this brand of scooter. Wondering if you fellas have any opinions. I was thinking it would be nice for those long out of town trips. But since I do all my own servicing I dont want a "wrench or ride" project. Reliability is my concern.
Thanks for your imput.

I should have mentioned there is zero rust anywhere. Was a fair weather bike.

After decades of being an owner operator trucker know to well about wrench or ride.
Thinking back sometimes I enjoyed the wrenching part more-as long as things were in balance.
You don't want to go in the hole.

Good news:
If it starts easily on a cool/cold day - you have one of the good ones.
Bad news: it is undisputedly the most trouble prone scooter in all of the Kymco line-up...a generally bullet proof brand.
Good news: it is pretty hard to DIY sort out if it begins to fail - so don't worry about it, just sell it.
Read about it - kymcoforum.com; you tube "hard to start kymco 500". (a guy in Australia has beem trying to start his for a few years)

One of the first things I would check if you have trouble starting it is the battery.
An undercharged battery is symptomatic of a list of problems . . ..

Hmm........no issues starting. Does it make a difference that it is the fuel injected/ abs model? Or are all the 500 line prone to the hard start problem.
