Speedometer is spot on

Post by vito »

Over the years I have gotten used to Honda motorcycles having a bias in the speedometer, typically reading about 5% faster that actual speed. But my 2019 PCX150 seems to be right on the button. Yesterday I put a ram mount on the handlebars so that I could use my Iphone with the Waze program to get somewhere I had not been to previously. The speed indicated on the screen was exactly the same as showing on the scooter's speedometer, a pleasant surprise. So now I think I need to stop "compensating" and just trust the speedo. FWIW, it is really nice to have the power outlet in the left side storage compartment. Using a GPS system seems to drain a lot of battery power, especially because I keep the screen "on" all the time. Being able to keep the phone on the power cord means that I won't have a dead battery when I get to where I am going. A nice touch on this basic scooter.

There was a video on here recently about the latest model PCX125, reviewer said it did an indicated 72mph.
If that's a genuine 72mph its pretty impressive for a 12hp scooter.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

My PCX 150 has a maximum speed of 64 mph. Riding on a long level stretch or road, that was the fastest I could get the scooter to go and maintain. Occasionally the speedometer would register 65 then drop back to 64. Maybe because I am 200 pounds the scooter is not as fast as it might be for a lighter rider, but I find it hard to believe that the 125 could get to 72 unless that was measured on a downhill slope with a tailwind.

My Speedo shows 73mph going downhill after a steady descent, my gps shows 70mph. On the straight it shows 66mph and 63 mph on the straight. Around town at 30mph the gps shows 27 mph so seems it is constantly 3 mph out regardless of speed so
I can live with that.
