My hilarious coffee & scooter buddy bought this off the village police - got it working - added it to his eclectic collection of wheeled items - and is "just having some fun with it" this morning.! The speed limit on this state route drops to 25MPH in town. His radar sign is slowing 'em down!
When I lived in Alabama there were a lot of those little towns with speed traps, so many that Congress got involved when a Congressmen's limo was pulled over for speeding.
The road was a secondary 4 lane highway, paid for with federal money. The speed limit was normally 55 mph. It went right through the middle of that very small town. The town council decided to slow traffic on its it's own, so they posted a 25 mph speed sign 2 feet before the town limits. They set up their radar gun 2 feet AFTER the town limit sign. Have you ever tried to go from 55 to 25 in less than 4 feet?? That town was raking in the money.
Congress put a stop to it by requiring step down speed signs BEFORE entering town. They even told them how far apart the signs had to be. That killed the town budget for not only them, but also for all of the other 250 small towns in Alabama that were doing the same thing. There are still quite a few towns like that in Georgia though, so be careful if you are riding through the South.

Yup. Much of the South is working hard to shed that image, but there really are some small towns down here that embrace that image. The question, when you are driving down here, is which ones are still backward towns. I am happy to go through those small towns, but I am also happy to keep on driving. If those towns love "Bubba" as their Sherriff that is fine, as long as I don't have to stop and meet him because he stopped me.

Funny you mentioned that cause I remember travelling through the deep south early 70's in my VW van with out of country plates,
seemed the local sheriffs would pull up behind me and escort me to the next county where they would hand me off to another escort.
Never did get pulled over.
