Opening the transmission case.

Post by Bafent »

The input shaft bearing has seized. I have removed all the bolts and I managed to separate the cover enough that the oil came out but it will not go any farther. Is there any trick that I am missing to open the transmission?

Bafent one more thing, please add your location to your profile. Directions are below my post to get that done. Location info will help us to help you today, tomorrow and in the future ;)

I'm asking all members to Please do the same if you haven't done so already. We live all over the globe, our bikes differ, remember that. Many times Our responses will play off your location. Simple as that. We all thank you in advance

I managed to get the case open. It was a combination of the dowel pins being stuck and the intermediate gear shaft being seized in the bearing which had ground itself up. The he final step that got it open was placing the nut and a socket over the end of the input shaft and striking it a few times with a dead blow hammer. I am ordering all new bearings and seals and hopefully it will go together easier than it came apart. My guess is the failure was caused by neglect of the former owner in changing the transmission oil. 16,000 miles on the bike.
