Idle Stop

Hi, I am a newbie I have a new PCX 150 but have owned 3 previously have travelled thousands of ks on mine but with my new one I had it for 2 weeks trave 1800K and I came out to use it and had a flat battery. I use the idle stop all the time but my travel distance has been up to 400K I need to know does the idle stop cause the battery to go flat. I am picking up the battery from the Honda agency tomorrow .

Did you suspect the idle stop of flattening your three previous PCXs too?

if you are only making short journeys -- a few 'K's at a time then the battery may not have chance to re-charge ....when using the idle stop.

if you are travelling a great distance on each journey then it should recharge ....

Your info shows you own a 2015 one, so is it used or have you not updated the info and own a new model?

The LED models onwards are supposed to have battery protection to disable idle-stop if the ECU detects the battery is not up to the task - as using idle stop on pre-LED models could flatten batteries. The UK service manual ammendment shows a staggered graph for ECU checks against battery volts over time and is not linear! But idle-stop should still be disabled if the battery is in a poor state.

tbh I've only used idle-stop 3 times (actual, not 3 journets worth) and turned it off - I do not see the point even riding through london traffic. The PCX has great fuel economy (still getting near 130 mpg 20,000 miles on with my 2014 PCX and that's in near zero degree temps early hours).

Old (and some new) batteries fail, some people have ones that go on and on and survive being outside throughout winter and the bikes still start after many days not being used, others but new bikes and ride them and then find the battery has failed.

I'm concerned about the increased wear and tear of stopping and starting - however if I'm not on the front row and I know it's going to be a minute or so, then I'll use the idle stop. I'll blip the throttle a few seconds before I have to start moving to give the oil a chance to circulate before I take off. Otherwise I leave on 'idling'.
