NJ to CA PCX 150 ride Completed - PART II

There are plenty of free camping spots in the National Forest. Only one car passed by the road the entire night. This is near the Natural Bridge National Monument in Utah.

The rainstorms chased me several times most of the days. But in the heat, they are actually pleasant. This photo shows the storm that I was actually riding in (I turned around for a picture) and it got me wet several times that day, but only for a few minutes as one dries out thoroughly while riding in the 90 degrees heat even in the short period of time.

A huge, old Nicholson Bridge in Pennsylvania.
Coming to it from a small rural road suddenly seeing thousands of tons of concrete high in the sky was breathtaking.
The bridge was completed in 1912, at which time manual labor and steam power were the only tools to aid in construction. Engineering marvel still and certainly for those days.

Was always fascinated with Wyoming. Its spirit did not disappoint. Wide open spaces, varied landscape. The frontier days spirit is still fresh here.

Cheyenne is much small than I thought, basically a few exits and a small downtown area. I was fortunate enough to roll into town one hour prior to Frontier Days parade where local and state politician rode the horses, there floats with kids and beauty queens dancing to the western music.

Probably enough photos for now, don't want to overwhelm you or exceed the bandwidth limit. I did way more photos during the three weeks

I have just two comments.

2. I lived in Cheyenne when I was a child. My father was in the military there. I don't know if that base still exists there, but I do remember the really cold winters. There weren't any trees to block the wind, so snow blew at top speed when it came. We went to Denver when we wanted to visit a big city. Otherwise, Frontier Days was our entertainment. :-)

Oh, one other thing. You live in southern California and you sent your bike back to New Jersey? Wait...did you send it in advance of your trip, or did you send it back after the trip?? I'm confused.

Mel, my dad drives semi truck around the lower 48 states so when he had a delivery from LA to NJ and happened to have an empty area on the trailer, we just loaded the bike at this ramp and he dropped it off at my brother's house 4 days later.

I actually met him in Cheyenne for lunch when he was passing on his way to Seattle.

Yes, I ordered the Michelin from partzilla but for future tires, I might use the significantly cheaper IRCs as an option if after Michelin comparison there is no significant difference in wear. IRC so far is holding up pretty well after 5000 miles on the rear wheel.

Wow! Congratulations on completing your trip and taking us along with all the beautiful photos. I am so jealous. Looks like you had a helluva time. I don't think I could or would like to travel alone like you did. I'd have to do it with a buddy. How was it for you?

I notice that you are carrying a spare tire. I expect that you are also carrying the tools you need to do a great number of repairs. Might i ask you to start a thread (in How-Tos, maybe?) of the tools that you carried and the failure/repairs you were prepared for? I can't help but think it would be REALLY useful for anyone contemplating a long trip, especially if that someone hadn't done such a thing before.

Some members say that they do not find much difference between the IRC tire and the Michelin, but I have had both and much prefer the Michelin for its road hugging ability. Both of my PCX 150s have Michelin tires now. I wouldn't have any other kind.

Really enjoyed the photos from your trip last summer. Thanks for posting. I saw that someone had asked you about the tools you took with you on that journey. I am interested in that as well. I am going to be taking a ride through all 6 New England states this August. I have new Michelins that probably wont have more than 500 miles on them before I leave. But what are the basic tools you feel a person may really have need of?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
