Virus is putting people out of work....
Coming through town before sunrise today I noticed the Marriott Hotel is closed....
And all is very quiet in my coffee village....
Fog settled in for my ride home. (turned on my little LED sequencing light attached to my rear crash bar)
Even as 'carry-out only' they may be forcing my coffee shop to close this week.
"Non essential".

Yes, we are seeing less people going out to eat here as well. Yesterday we went out to eat with an elderly neighbor and we were the only ones in the restaurant aside from the work staff. Our waitress told us that we, and two others, were her only customers all day. We left her a very large tip.

We are all slowly being put under martial law.
Unprecedented methodology for dealing with a low level respiratory virus wouldn’t you say?

Keep in mind that this low level respiratory virus has killed thousands. Unlike the flu, this particular bug is something completely new. With a 50% survival rate, it is dangerous to underestimate this virus. It kills quickly, and that is the problem. It may take a little while to have any signs, and then it may be too late for those with weaker immune systems. I happen to be one of those with a weakened immune system.
However, we have friends who work as waiters and waitresses, and we know what they are going through because of this virus. We called ahead before going to the restaurant. One of our friends was working that day, and she let us know that they have cleaned and disinfected everything. She also told us that patrons were not being seated close to other patrons. We came there to eat and support her. She lives on tips.
We also bring our own disinfecting wipes everywhere we go now.

Mel, can you provide a link for the " 50% survival rate " ? I thought it was much, much higher than that..Mel46 wrote:Keep in mind that this low level respiratory virus has killed thousands. The threat is real. One just has to look at Italy and their ever increasing death toll from an overwhelmed healthcare system. They had 627 deaths reported yesterday.you you wrote:We are all slowly being put under martial law.

The healthier you are, the better chance that you will survive. However, there have been exceptions, so be misled into believing, like those college students that just went on Spring Break down at the Florida beaches, that you are immune from catching it.
The 50% rate I quoted was a little lopsided in that there were a lot of older adults in the stats who came down with it and did not survive. There are a lot of differing statistics out there because each relates to that specific area of the world, so no final stats are available. I do, however, have a report from the World Health Organization on the outbreak in China. It makes for good reading, for those who are interested.
