Pictures from a four-day tour CA-UT-NV
The PCX did well.
Route: Castaic, CA to Hollywood, to Las Vegas, to Mesquite, St. George, Utah, to Imperial, UT to Ely Nevada, to Tonopah, NV, Bishop, CA, Mojave, CA, back to Castaic.
Did one oil change. Camped three nights, moteled once in Ely as it was raining.
Best MPG is 105, worst about 87, at wide open throttle against head wind.

Re: Pictures from a four-day tour CA-UT-NV
Next weekend, planning another trip for 3 days.
Changed the belt, the drive pulley, the oil, the gear fluid and the air filter with gasket. Washed the bike and about to wax it.

Very nice pictures. Reading the signs was very eye-opening. It makes you wonder if this massacre has ever been put in the history books. I had never heard it or read about it. Thanks for the history lesson.

Re: Pictures from a four-day tour CA-UT-NV
Thanks for nice comments, mates.
Yes, the massacre was an eye opening experience. It's a huge site, there is also a statement by the morning church. I will upload the photos in a second.
The roads were empty. Many of them I didn't see a car for 30 minutes on. Important, thus to have all the tools and tire repair in case something happens.
The motel was in Ely Nevada, got there a bit late, was dark and it started raining. 45$ a night is not bad.
Overall, awesome experience. The key is to have the time to explore the spots. Each town has someone interesting to talk to, story to hear, monument or local park to visit.
3-4 days is good but 3-4 weeks would be so much better
But, hey, I am glad to have a job. Flying to Istanbul and Russia in a month. Need to save my vacation time for that.

The rest of the photos of the trip. THe function of batch processing in canon photo professional was useful to resize a bunch of files at once.

- Amazing guy, retired PHD professor. Lives with his wife in an abandoned Utah railroad town of Modena. His name is Vincent. He is pretty lonely there and would love to talk. Please feel free to call him and say Michael on the scooter was saying hi :) He has been a pilot, a glider rider, a firefighter, a park ranger, you name it. Very nice guy. 435.439.5212
Oh, and he also has an old suzuki with rotary engine that he says he can't ride anymore as it's heavy but when he was young and strong, he ripped through the southwest on it. Has RV and dogs. Seriously, if you call him, I am sure he will be happy and have many interesting topics to talk about. - DPP_0007.JPG (1.56 MiB) Viewed 21054 times

- Some drunk guy who didn't speak English passed me impatiently, then veered left and collided head on with a newer civic. His leg got jammped so he coudln't get out. CHP were just two miles away that we just passed. Called 911 and units arrived within 5 min. I gave my info as a witness but then never called me.

- I bought a spare wheel from Ebay for 60 bucks, it came with this tire that had a nail in it. I put the plug in and the plug lasted about 1500 miles. Not bad. THen during the super hot weather of 110F, the plug failed and I just rode home ruining the tire. It got hot but rim never touched the ground. It's good to know scooter can be ridden for up to 30 miles on a flat tire if care is taken to not overheat it.

Again, those of you who have time and would like to talk to Vincent, please call him.
He would be very happy. Seems he is pretty isolated there but had such a long life living in Seattle, teaching at Uof Wash in Pullman. He also tought in HHHH club, did agricultural and computer research.
Pretty amazing guy. Welcomed me to come visit him again.
I can only imagine how happy he would be to receive a phone call.

You can mention Michael, guy on the scooter says hi and will call him as well once my dad comes to town.

Yes, I carried a 1.5 liter Primus Bottle.
Few times I ran down to one flashing bar. It was a piece of mind to know I had extra. Some distances are indeed great out there without gas stations.
Ely, NV to Tonopah, NV is about 170 miles with no gas stations. PCX can make it to about 200. At least the LED model with larger gas tank.

Re: Pictures from a four-day tour CA-UT-NV
Pictures definitely can be worth a thousand words and more!
BTW I found that not all the pics rendered at first so I refreshed the page and they came up fine (in case anyone else was having problems seeing them).
The wide open spaces . . . as Fish has also shown us back on his turf with the morning sun casting it's influence on farmer's fields . . . are great for reflection about life and what's important and what's not.
It makes a desk with a title seem kind of insignificant by comparison.
Plus you don't need to break the bank to enjoy it all on a scooter.
Thanks again.

Re: Pictures from a four-day tour CA-UT-NV
Since I have a 2013 model, my gas tank is only 1.6 gallons so I would (and do) carry a 1 gallon gas can as my spare for long trips like that. Looking at those pictures I have to wonder if it would have been enough. It looks pretty isolated out there. Imagine having any kind of trouble out there...
