Ankle Biter
So I have always been a fan of Custom CVT covers and/or Ankle Biters. I think it gives Scooters such a custom frankenstein look to them. Even uncovered CVT's look crazy and rugged. So I found a guy Harvey that has been cutting and selling PCX Ankle Biters and instantly bought it. It came rough from the raw Aluminum so I wanted to do some step sanding and polish it.
Took about 8 hours of step sanding and hand polishing but It was well worth it. Painted the Bell to give a nice contrast. Enjoy.
So this is how the cover comes. Raw Material + Hardware.
This is after 350/400/600/1000 wet sanding then first pass with Mothers. Tried a buffing pad but due to it being so thin, I just ended up finishing it by hand.

Re: Ankle Biter
So your'e gonna run the scoot with that part right there open?
Everything looks better from the inside of a motorcycle helmet...
Re: Ankle Biter
Personally, I'd be concerned about running the clutch assy without the left hand end of the shaft being supported (The original CVT cover has a bearing that the shaft is supported by).

Yep, bearing is out there for a reason.

Re: Ankle Biter

Sure it looks nice but spend a little more money and buy / make a transparent cover to protect the CVT and yourself if you want to show the CVT assembly

Re: Ankle Biter
ha ha ha ha. I love the hatred for anything Original in this group. Im a form over function kinda guy (with a very well tuned bike).
I'm not one bit worried about anything going into the CVT or clutch, nor worried about any extra bearing wear due to removing the clutch shaft bearing. Ive run with no CVT or open cover on multiple bikes with no issues. Its not a GY6 so Im not worried about Swingarm cracking plus this bracket is just as sturdy as stock.
This is not my primary transport so if something fails, I'm not walking. The sound and look of this thing is well worth the risk (which is very minimal).

Looks good tbh.
What about removing the redundant mounting brackets?

Re: Ankle Biter
Thanks, I know its not for everyone. I also know that the majority of people on this forum care about longevity and MPG. 2 things I dont really care. Im of the mindset that if it breaks, build it bigger and better. ha ha ha.you you wrote:Looks good tbh.

Im assuming you are talking about the outer bracket? If so, the point of that is so its mess likely for you to hurt yourself if you brush up against the CVT while you get off or on.
Plus it looks really weird without it and the Clutch bell sticking out.

Re: Ankle Biter
Seriously, I will remove the bracket too.
then Paint multiple attractive colors on the clutch bell so that it looks much nicer when it turns, like a color wheel.
Also, if it's possible to make the belt more visible.
Watching that will be the same as staring at those beautiful skeleton mechanical watches, they never fail to astound me.

I don't "hate" it; By your own declaration you're a "form over function kinda guy" and in contrast, I'm a "don't fix it if it ain't broke" kinda guy.Conelite wrote:I love the hatred for anything Original in this group.
Many here have replaced many parts (windscreen, variator, shocks, seats are some that come to mind) whereas I'm 100% satisfied with the OEM versions of all those types of parts.
Horses for courses and all that.

Re: Ankle Biter
I like it. I understand why you did it, and obviously you’ve got some acumen about this because you own Flex Rotary… Don’t know too many people that have that. I do worry a bit about the rear bearing not being supported, but only if I was going to keep something for tens of thousands of miles, and ride it into the ground. I don’t keep my bikes more than three years, I like new stuff. So it wouldn’t bother me. I actually may do this modification.
Ps With that rotary you could probably get it to be a mirror finish using a true polish set, like Meguires 105 and then 205.

Re: Ankle Biter
I didnt use the hand buffer/Flex Rotary too much. It was a little too hard to hold the part and polish it at the same time. It was mostly done by hand so not the best finish. Im hoping next time it needs a good polishing I can get my hands on one of these. Then for sure it would be a mirror finish. ha ha ha haJge64 wrote:I like it. No I meant the redundant brackets on the crankcase for a cleaner look.
Or maybe pop some bolts in to cover the exposed thread

Finally finished my radiator cover. Didn't polish it like I did the Ankle biter but I'm happy with it. If and when i stretch it, should look real nice.
