Making shutter key DIY (video)
After losing my shutter key and hearing about how difficult it is to get another one, replacing ignition etc etc I decided to make one myself. This project cost me less than 5.00 to make (I had the materials) but should cost no more than ten dollars to make.I hear a new key is near 80-100.00.I never use the shutter lock but thought I better have a key just in case. Watch the video I made which hopefully it will help someone in dire need or in an emergency situation albeit not on the road fix. In the shop it will take about 1 hour allowing for curing. Knowing a bit about magnetic properties will help as this key has magnets with polarity orientations. Each key will have its own configuration re: N/S poles. Good luck hope you enjoy the video..

As we used to say way back in the day, neato torpedo!
Do you think it would be possible to start by putting the three mini-magnets down on the shutter and then pressing the epoxy putty into place over them?

I didn't need to create an account. I just clicked the play arrow at the bottom of the screen and it started playing.

I always thought the hex shape was the only obstacle a thief had to overcome to turn the shutter. How did you ever figure out the keys had magnets embedded in the plastic. And further more the blanks you can buy online will probably not turn the shutter given all that polarity stuff.

My blank key came with magnets, I used the old key to get the polarities right.
