Hi Everyone.....again!
Well after venturing into the world of Royal Enfield motorcycles (again) I realised that I much prefer scootering so have bought a new SH Mode 125. This is my third one, and though they are not perfect, and less well supported than the PCX it's still a good scoot and very capable of having some adventures on.
I have purchased a Faco tall screen from Italy for the bike, and thought I would just pass on some tips for anyone considering a windscreen for their Mode. This is my third Faco screen and I think they look much better than the Givi option, and are strong with very little movement. Please note I was part way through fitting the screen before I realised I could take some photos, so please excuse the fact that I had already fitted the rubber washers and plastic fixings to the screen ready for mounting to the bike. Faco provide an 'instruction sheet' that is very brief, but does give a small image of how to thread the plastic fixings and rubber washers together.
1. Remove mirrors and then remove silver threaded spacers which attach mirrors to the handlebar
2. Fit black metal screen mounts to handlebar, with washer and 40mm spacer. This might be a bit fiddly as the receiving hole is recessed under the plastic bodywork on the handlebar. Note bolt screws in clockwise but do not tighten yet, also note use inward hole on mount. The outer hole is for mounting your mirrors later.
3. Thread screen fixings (4 of them) over the black metal mount, you may have to wiggle the mounts and plastic fixings to get them to slide down easily.
4. Get the screen level and ensure it is not in contact with bodywork or brake levers. Small adjustments are easy and this is why it is important to keep the screen mounts and plastic fixings quite loose. Once you are happy with it you may tighten everything down, but beware do not overtighten plastic fixings on the screen - it may crack!
5. Now the screen is fitted you can fit the mirrors back on the scooter. Notice the outer holes in the black screen mounts have moved the mirrors about a half inch out, which gives better rear views in the mirrors. You use the smaller washers and nuts provided by Faco to fit the mirrors to the black mounts. Note: the mirror threads are reversed so when you try and fit the nuts to the bottom part of the mirror stem you need to use a counter-clockwise motion. See pic below
6. All completed
Enjoy riding with your new screen but if you encounter problems seeing through the screen in bad weather you can cut the screen down. Quite a few people cut an inch or two from the top using a fine blade jigsaw. Best to put masking tape both sides of the screen when doing this, to reduce likelihood of splintering.
Hope this helps someone!
Tom.

Just an extra image from Faco's information sheet, that shows how the plastic fixings and rubber washers attach to the screen.
