2nd ride - 2003 Suzuki Burgmann???

Post by Jhois1 »

Sorry if this is inappropriate in the PCX forum, but I thought some of you may have some good feedback on an opportunity to purchase a 2003 Suzuki Burgmann. It is Silver w/Black, 650cc with 14 k miles. New tires and battery and seems to have been taken care of. The owner is asking $2900. See pic below...

Top scooter, very comfortable and powerful. Bit overkill for city use and you may find it cumbersome to handle but on open country roads and highways its a king. Value of this one seems ok too...

This is perfectly appropriate, it's a scooter forum. ;)

You probably should have put it in the Other Bikes subforum. I can move it if you want.

Burgers are great scooters, EXTRAORDINARILY comfortable. The seat was the most comfortable of any scooter for both me and my wife when we were looking at touring bikes. The response is great, the maintenance intervals are decent (valve adjustments are HORRID though), and they're pretty reliable. The main downside is fuel economy. My car almost gets as good of gas mileage as a Burgman: http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/suzuki/burgman%20650
Currently ride: Nothing right now - mostly mountain biking with my boys until they're old enough to ride
Previously rides: 2011 Honda PCX 125, 2005 V-Strom DL650, 1974 Vespa Ciao, 2011 Honda PCX 170 (tons of mods - takegawa 170cc big bore kit, gears, etc), 1996 Honda Nighthawk 250, 1987 Honda Spree, 2000 KTM 125SX, 2003 Honda Silverwing, 2007 Genuine Buddy 125, 1998 Honda PC800, 2008 Buddy 125 (white), 2008 Buddy 125 (red), 2001 Honda Reflex, 1987 Honda Elite, 1988 Honda Spree, 2007 Yamaha Vino, 2007 Honda Metro, 2x 125cc pure-chinesium dirt bikes

I have a Burgman 400 and I can say with certainty that you would love that scooter, except driving around tight corners. The price is good on that one and the comfort is great. When I purchased my 400 I looked at a 650 too and fell in love with it, but decided on the more practical 400. If my wife and I were going to take any extended trips I would definitely love a 650, but right now my wife's PCX 150 can keep up with me quite well. So your choice would be based on what you want to do with the scooter. If you are doing mostly local travel, it would be too cumbersome. If you are planning on doing a lot of 2 up riding, it would be ideal. If you are looking for a 2nd scooter to tag along with a PCX, it is too big. So....it all depends on what you want to use it for. By the way, in case I haven't said it enough, it is a great scooter at a great price.

One more thing. At Burgmanusa.com you will get a better feel for how popular that scooter is. Many of the members have 650s and have 90,000 miles or more on them. The model changed in 2007 but not enough to worry about. The engine has 2 cylinders instead of 1 so it is quieter than the 400, which sounds like a sewing machine to me.
