Re: Variators for increased speed,
In Tampa, FL. Thanks for the offer, but a 6 hr one-way drive to Atlanta will cost more than the wrench itself.

Re: Variators for increased speed,
i wonder if Honda uk would send me a U.S ECU. hmmmmm, i order all my parts from the us parts catalog as it is now anyway but i have never tried ordering anything thats different on the uk model. i'll check the price of it at workrich666 wrote:I'd like to jump in with a new slant on this everlasting discussion.
As I don't own a PCX anymore and don't intend getting one again in the near future I can now say what I have known about for a while.
In the Uk the Honda PCX is NOT classed as a worldwide model - Honda reprogrammed the ECU for the UK Market the speed sensor at the back wheel dictates exactly how fast the PCX can go.
This was to conform to A1 motorbike classifications. My friendly Honda technician/Spanner magician catorgorically told me they restricted the bike to an actual speed of 62.5 mph. The UK PCX can be modified to your hearts content - Variators, chips, belts, etc, etc - BUT it will never go any faster than 62.5mph (Actual) on the roads UNLESS you have the ECU replaced/reprogrammed.
The reasoning behind this very shrewd move is simple business - Honda get a much better rate of Tax on an A1 bike at point of sale which ultimately means more profit
Re: Variators for increased speed,
Wouldn't make any difference, US PCXs aren't any faster than UK ones.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Re: Variators for increased speed,
My PCX doesn't go any faster downhill once it reaches 61mph on flat ground.Esdain wrote:how about down hill! was too busy, but it was just goin to be for an experiment.

Re: Variators for increased speed,
Well, since the 150 is faster than the 125, I wonder if the variator on it could be upgraded for better performance?

but how would you know? What have you done to yours and how much money have you spend to be able to say that?
I can still get over 200km out of my tank with everything done to it, so its still economical by economy standards and considerably faster than stock. Why i waste my money? 'Cos its a hobby i guess. I don't waste my money on alcohol or drugs so gotta have something to dwindle my thumbs. You should say thank you for sharing my mod experience as Ive must have spend lots of money and time with this....
Its easy to sit on the fence and throw comments all the time but if you want your comment to carry some weight than you need to have first hand experience
with modding 'your' Pcx and share your knowledge.....Other bikes don't count as this is PCX forum. So participate valuably on another non modifying topic or sht the f up!

You asked,i chimed in....Dont see how you got offended by it all...

Re: Variators for increased speed,
Same problem with the PCX 150. It's speed limited to 67Mph. I tried going faster down a long hill and it wont do any better than that.Mel46 wrote:Well, since the 150 is faster than the 125, I wonder if the variator on it could be upgraded for better performance?

Re: Variators for increased speed,
My wife has pushed her 150 up to 80 mph on the freeway. That was its max. We just wanted to see what its top end was. Even figuring 10% off on the speedometer that would put it at 72 still.

wrong quote, sorry. Carry on !Pcxdemon wrote:You asked,i chimed in....Dont see how you got offended by it all...

Re: Variators for increased speed,
im new to the pcx but i can say this thing has a rev limiter that comes on with my wieght 220lb at 67 downhill no change just a surge, meaning a soft touch rev limiter. now i know that if i can lower my rpms at that range with a taller vario i can achieve a higher top speed.
now mel is your wife lighter and do you have a windshield both of those could bring up mph to that level ive done a lot of gy6 tuning and my buddy has a 170 bbk that runs 87 gps verified so i do have an idea how these work just dont know specifics. now on that note do dr pulley sliders make up for the limiter on the vario that keeps it form going out completly.
