Greetings! New PCX150 Owner in DFW Area-These are my Rides!

Post by Pseudo-Fed »

Hello! Been peeking here last couple weeks. Sold my 2010 Yamaha FZ1 a couple weeks ago and wanted to get a scooter for the wife and I to make our many trips within a few miles of the house--the gym, out to eat, errands, etc. Researched many of the little 150ish scooters and decided on the Honda. I've had a Honda ST1300 and VTX1800 and really appreciate their quality and lack of issues.

I also have a 2013 Yamaha FJR for when I just need to hit the superslab or carry alot of stuff. My hope is my wife will follow through with her hint that she *might* be willing to drive two wheels if it's small and simple.

Got my 150 from a Fort Worth dealer, with .6 miles on it for $3399 ($50 under MSRP) plus tax, title, license. $3765 OTD with no freight or prep paid.

Here is a pic of both of our rides:

And after trying the Kymco Like 200i and the Buddy 125 and 170i, I had almost decided on one of these:

But while sitting on the green Italia I squeezed the rear brake lever, to find it was broken in half. There was a slight rub mark on it, the same side of the center stand, and the muffler heat shield. I decided to go for the Honda. The Honda was also the only one my wife agreed to passenger on a test ride. She thought it was very smooth and easy to ride on. She really liked the retro look of, well, ALL the other scooters, but like many I decided quality, reputation, dealer availability and performance/feel mattered more.

Think I want a taller windshield pretty soon and want to add a Battery Tender pigtail to keep the little guy topped off. My FJR is "Shelly" after Shelly Frazier-Price, who won the women's 100 meter in the 2012 olympics. Need a similarly fitting name for the new little girl.

I've read about the center stand/crank case issue and I'll plan to lube it well soon. Are there any other issues I should pay early attention to?

Thanks!......Jeff.

Nice! That is a great price, perhaps I should point my honda dealer towards this site! Lowest I have been quoted is 4045.00 OTD.

Unless you are absolutely sold on the retro look, IMO the PCX is the best looking bike out there.

The only other problem I can think of was dud batteries on a few earlier models.

The centerstand has been a relatively limited issue. There's no maintenance concerns or failures to worry about other than that. I've only heard of a couple of engine failures, one was because the user did creek crossings on his PCX (likely water in the crankcase), and the other from intentional gross neglect (skipped 1st service completely). You picked a solid bike. :)

My wife had not ridden bikes since she was a teen, so when she rode the PCX she was a little frightened but was really happy with how easy it was to ride. It took her a few months till she was truly comfortable with it, but now she rides like a champ and is thrilled with it. I hope your wife gives it a chance. Bring her to a big empty parking lot and turn her loose. She may scratch it some but as long as you keep encouraging her I think she will fall in love with it.

Hmmm. I see I can't edit my original post to add these. So here are some more pics of the new girl in the sandbox with the big girl!
