First oil change
Hi,
I'm going to do my first oil change soon, I have bought some castrol 10w-40 from Asda.
I've read that with winter approaching I should use 10w-30, does it make much difference? I do a lot of miles on the bike as I use it to commute to work.
I'm going go follow the how to guide on here.
Thanks
JC

Re: First oil change
The best oil to use is the slippery kind.
Keep that Asda stuff till next spring/summer and get some 10w-30 to use now.

Re: First oil change
The 10W-40 will do fine. You don't tell us what part of the world you live in.
I did my own oil change last week, took my time and did well with no problems.

Re: First oil change
As mentioned before, I use the Honda HP4S 10/30. Probably overkill, but at a few bucks more....
So 10 bucks every 3000 miles..
(and you won't need the entire quart) Going to start using it in my Honda Powerwasher.
I just checked my oil and after 2000 miles you still have a hard time finding it on the stick.

Re: First oil change
My solution for that is very simple, I don't bother checking it.Shoe wrote:I just checked my oil and after 2000 miles you still have a hard time finding it on the stick.

Re: First oil change
you sound like a run-and-gun guy! More power to ya!
I wear the shit out of my stuff too! That's why I bought it, to use! My boat has 1140 hours on it, the one previous had another 1000+ and the one before that 3300+... LOL. They all got used! Even at 17 gallons an hour..
If it's just gonna sit, get rid of it! You really didn't need it in the first place! (my 2 year rule)
Sure wish my wife would adhere to that phylsophy. My God, I've never seen her wear the same thing twice...

Wives, they're a strange lot, not like normal people at all!

I was under the impression that Scott's are much like the Dutch (frugal, have a hand on their spouse...)gn2 wrote:Wives, they're a strange lot, not like normal people at all!
I guess things have changed!
Must be the influence of Western Culture. Good Luck with that! I was raised in post-war Germany in a town that manufactured ball bearings. I still remember all those bombarded bunkers!
Living the life on this end of the pond since 1972, but I still wonder about "what if"....

My PCX was desperate for oil so I have put some of the 10w-40 in for the time being and will lay my hands on some 10w-30 soon.
Thanks for your help!

It'll be fine. They both drop down to a similar viscosity after around 1000 miles in any casedatrigga1 wrote:Sorry, i live in the UK.Lecompte wrote:The 10W-40 will do fine. You don't tell us what part of the world you live in.
