Re: Greetings out of Africa
And who said you cannot do adventure touring on a super bike? Just kidding... found this pic of a trip i did with my R1 some years back... also just off the tarmac on a short farm road for a P-break>>>>
. Was on my way to the old lady. Some 1400km from Johannesburg where I live. As you can see, I was quite heavily loaded. Bag strapped on the back, Oxford tank bag and a rucksack on my back. Still managed to get 258km/h (161mph) before I got scared and tapped down to a respectable, jet still over the speed limit, 100 mph.

Awesome pictures, it's amazing how different all the scenery is over there. I'll retire and go adventuring one day.

Yes the R1 was good for over 300kph without all the baggage... but i must tell you... you kinda sh1t yourself and tap down quickly
Why wait to retire? The hardest part of Adventure touring is starting you bike. No time like the present!! Tomorrow might be stolen from us.
One of my findings on my travels.
Rebuild just waiting to happen

Re: Greetings out of Africa
Money and time! I do take a lot of trips -- I went out of the country once this year, and went on 5 500+ mile motorcycle trips, 3 overnighters, too.. It's just impossible to get a contiguous month off to go explore another country. It's even harder to pack my preggo wife up and convince her she wants to go on tour.Stef-fm wrote:Why wait to retire? All understandable... Have the same challenges here.maddiedog wrote:Money and time! I am however busy planning my next trip. going to sell a kidney (make a plan) and do "8 countries in 14 days!!!!" Planning on leaving SA to... Lesotho (1), then back in SA (2) over to Swaziland (3), Mozambique (4), Zimbabwe (5), Botswana (6), Namibia (7) and back into SA (8). Gonna be a hectic ride given the terrain and time allocation... but I think it will be achievable. The trip does depend on having a couple of riding partners, at lease one. I'm not convinced crossing "African boarder crossings and terrain" on my own is a good idea... a bit dangerous to be honest... especially when something does wrong.
Naturally I'll be doing this on the GS (packed very light) and not the PCX... but you never know. I might just do it again on the scoot if the terrain allows for it.
I have been in all of those countries with the exception of Mozambique... and the route I'm wanting to take will take me thru boarder crossings I've never been at... so I have a bit of planning still left before I'm ready and committed for the trip.
Besides the time. from I financial perspective, $1000 should get me around. So not too expensive for an Adventure holiday. +\- 5000 km in total.
This is the "General Route" I'm planning to take.

Re: Greetings out of Africa
Looks like fun! 5000km in 14 days isn't too bad, that's 350km per day, which is nothing around here. Rough terrain might make that a lot more difficult though! I agree -- don't do anything like that solo. I've taken long solo trips, but that's in the US. It's completely different over there.Stef-fm wrote: I am however busy planning my next trip. going to sell a kidney (make a plan) and do "8 countries in 14 days!!!!" Planning on leaving SA to... Re: Greetings out of Africa
Agreed...
Chantel took her first ride on the PCX today... Scary stuff!!! I think i'm going to send her to motorbike school or something... I do not have the nerves to teach her!!! OMG.
Also... I found out today... Honda will not be bringing in the Forza or the Ruckus to South Africa.... So no upgrade for me in the near future.

Why would that be an upgrade?

I was hoping to get the Forza for myself and pass the PCX on to Chantel. The Ruckus as a toy
