Best winter tires?
What are the best tires for winter snow and ice? I'm on the stock dunlops will the suffice?
Re: Best winter tires?
There is no such thing as a motorcycle tire that's good on ice unless it's studded and doing such a thing on a PCX is ridiculous.

I live in Missouri and was out yesterday morning when it was 2*F. The cold doesn't bother me.

Re: Best winter tires?
I tried to order some winter tires from UK but the company never wrote me back. No one in the US sells them. Pneus has the excellent Heidenau. And IRC makes a 14 inch snow I saw somewhere but I can't find a way to buy them.

Re: Best winter tires?
I used City Grips in the snow last year and it was fine, obviously you will slide about and risk your life but i got out my snow covered road and onto the main gritted roads without too much trouble. If you live somewhere with heavy snow in the winter or intend to ride in the snow often then 2 wheels is really not the way, no matter what tyres you have on!

Or you could temporarily switch down to the Honda C90 like the guy in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc_IKEdptq0

Re: Best winter tires?
Thats amazing, would love to do a proper hardcore adventure. I did a trip round Europe and every morning i started the bike i had my fingers crossed. In the arse end of nowhere like that i would be shitting starting it in the morning, very real chance of not ever making it home!

Re: Best winter tires?
knobbies are the best tires for riding in the snow (ice, forget it!) and they dont make knobbies in the PCX size. i wouldnt do it on streets with traffic, etc. its a good way to get yourself seriously hurt or killed. sorry but you need to put the scoot in the garage when its snowy and icey and find another way to get around.

Michelin list winter city grips on their website but I haven't seen them for sale anywhere.

Whoa! Nice video. This guy really knows how to enjoy this thing called Life.beos59 wrote:Or you could temporarily switch down to the Honda C90 like the guy in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc_IKEdptq0
On another note, i can picture him riding back to pick up his camera after every scene where he is riding away

Don't know the purpose of the flag though. Maybe to divert low-flying aircraft.
A 'real' bike is one with which you have to jump through hoops to get it to do what a scoot does with a twist

I like the look of these: http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/product ... intec.html
But they are not knobbies.

And they don't make it in any size that is close enough to use on the PCX.wingz wrote:I like the look of these: http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/product ... intec.html

Re: Best winter tires?
hahahaha.
I still think they look nice.
(I found them when I was looking for larger tyres. 120/80-14 should fit the front and 140/70-14 should fit the rear.)

Re: Best winter tires?
I have found an ebay seller in Germany who will ship these worldwide:
.
http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/mot ... %7CRF.html
.
He wants E70 ($96) each for the tires and E60 ($82) to ship 4 to the USA. I don't mind paying him a little extra as it is the only way to get the Heidenau snows for the PCX since Pneus won't ship here. I can receive them and reship to USA addresses for an additional $25 per pair. I am definitely going to buy 2 if anyone else in the USA wants to get in on a group buy I will order more.

Re: Best winter tires?
Revzilla is a Heidenau dealer and they called the USA distributor for me but Heidenau USA did not import any of the K66 winter tires.

Re: Best winter tires?
Ah, I hadn't realised there were two flavours of K66.
The standard ones are intended for four seasons, so would probably be fine.

Re: Best winter tires?
I would like to buy these Sava studded snow tires
.
http://www.moto-tyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rsh ... &dsco=1110
.
and have a friend in the UK who would reship them but UPS is crazy on their pricing. UPS is quoting me pricing for shipping services from UK to USA ranging from $550! to $176 for two tires. SIP-scootershop in Germany can ship two tires to the USA using UPS for $55. I don't understand why UPS gives such a better deal to the merchants. But SIP doesn't have the Sava. I might just buy the IRC urban Snow from them as they accept PayPal and are willing to ship.
