Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
I didn't know Honda made their own windscreen... available on Amazon(US) for only twice what any Puig or Givi seems to go for: http://amzn.com/B00DSPEEVA.
Anyone ever install one?

Think it could be made by Ermax, the Forza one from Honda is.

Thanks. Ermax seems a bit more tricky to get hold of in the states... and I meant to be sarcastic about how much it costs!

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
They threw one in free when I bought mine.
Very good quality. But not worth the price over a Givi

I bough my PCX used, it had 1400 miles on it. It also had the Honda full screen on it. They either gave it to the lady who purchased the bike, or she purchased it and had it added to the bike.

What do you think of the Honda screen? Any buffeting issues at higher speeds or anything you don't like about it? Any pictures of it on your bike?cfrobw wrote:I bough my PCX used, it had 1400 miles on it. It also had the Honda full screen on it. I'm not sure, what you mean by buffeting? Do you mean like the windshield fluttering or vibrating at top speeds?

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
Does the wind come over the top of the screen right at your helmet and hit so hard your eyes bobble around in your head, or your head bobbles around on your neck, or anything like that? This is the problem lots of people have with the short Givi screen at higher speeds. You are one of only a few people who have the actual Honda screen, so it will be great to know what you think of it and if you notice any problems using it.cfrobw wrote:Indyglow

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
Indyglow,
To answer your question, the first day I rode my PCX, I drove it 15 miles out and 15 miles back on the Interstate at 60. (My bike was used by 2 months, had 1400 miles on it.) There was what you would call buffeting that day. Its the only time it occurred. I think I was leaning to far forward towards the windscreen. I felt like I was in a wind tunnel, my helmet was vibrating on my head like crazy. See the attached photo.
After examining the bike I found that there is a huge opening at the bottom of the windscreen in the front, part of the design of the bike. It allows wind to rush straight up the inside of the screen. I believe this is what caused my helmet to vibrate. I haven't had the problem since that day. I changed the way I sit. I don't put my face close up to the windshield like I did that day.

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
Thank you for all the info, especially the pictures! One last question---do you look through the screen or over it? Okay, one more last question--how tall are you? I'm only 5'3" and would like to be able to see over a screen rather than have to look through it. Maybe the better question would be, what is the length of the screen from top tip to bottom tip?
Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
I look over it. I'm 6'1". If you look at the last few pictures, you will see that the screen is about 4 to 5 inches taller than the mirrors. If you wish, I can measure from the dash straight up to get the height and take a photo.

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
Dustin, I'm not sure about the GIVI windscreen, but the Honda windscreen is made from polycarbonate lens material, like scratch resistant eye wear. This could be why its pricier, otherwise its just the Honda name.dustin91 wrote:I didn't know Honda made their own windscreen... available on Amazon(US) for only twice what any Puig or Givi seems to go for: http://amzn.com/B00DSPEEVA.

Yes, thank you, that would help a lot. It's hard trying to figure out how high the screen is just by looking at the pictures.cfrobw wrote:I look over it. I'm 6'1". According to my measurements its 15.35 inches tall from where the cover over the handlebar meets the dash.Indyglow wrote:Yes, thank you, that would help a lot. Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
If I remember correctly, when I put our Givi windshield on, the holes on the windshield that line up with the windshield brackets was actually drilled through the Plexiglas itself, which means that the hole you had the problem with isn't as large with a Givi because it is closer to the body. My wife is only 5 ft tall but was getting buffeted when she had the smaller Givi windshield on, so we went up in size and now have the tall Givi windshield. She sees through it instead of over it, but the buffeting is gone.

Re: Honda's own windscreen upgrade - anyone?
Are you referring to the spot where the holes aren't lined up in the photo above? If so that's just because I was showing them in the picture before I hooked it to the mounting points. It just hooks right in and you re install the bolts.Mel46 wrote:If I remember correctly, when I put our Givi windshield on, the holes on the windshield that line up with the windshield brackets was actually drilled through the Plexiglas itself, which means that the hole you had the problem with isn't as large with a Givi because it is closer to the body.
