How-To: Install a windshield

Once you have your windshield, you will need a long philips-head screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, and a 10mm ratchet.

The windshield I am installing here is a Givi D323DT, which is the largest windshield they make for the PCX. For the D323DT in particular, Givi recommends you use mirror extensions, which Givi sells specifically to accompany the windshield. The part number is D323KIT for the extensions. The mirror extensions include instructions and are easy to install, so I didn't bother with pictures of that process. I have since removed the extensions -- if you adjust your handlebars and mirrors, they are entirely unnecessary.

Here's the windshield in box next to the scooter:

Start the process at the front of the bike, under the center fairing:


If you look up under there, you can see some screws:


Take the screws out:




Stash the screws somewhere and then GENTLY pry off the top of the white panel you just took the screws out of:

Then do the other side:




Gently pull the panel down and off the bike:






Grab your 10mm ratchet:


And remove the four bolts securing the windshield, two per side:




Gently pull the windshield off one side, then the other:




Nekkid PCX:


Unwrap your shiny new windshield and place it over the four studs that held the old windshield on:




Wrench it back on. Remember, the plastic washer goes between the bolt and the windshield! It should go PCX interior | Windshield | plastic / rubber washer | nut. Tighten until it is tight, but DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! You could crack the windshield:


Slip the plastic fairing back in place:


And screw it back in place. This part sucks (it is hard to get the screws in place), but if you have a magnetic screwdriver, it helps a lot. Do not put the top of the fairings in place yet, otherwise you won't be able to get the fairing on right:


Click the fairings in place at the top once the screws are in place. They should click when they go in all the way:


And the other side:


You're done!

Where did you buy your windshield. I look online for your model number and cannot find it.
Have you had a chance to try it out? How do you like it? Is it too tall?

I bought mine on compacc.com, but they no longer carry it. The part number is 323DT or 322DT. Unfortunately, it was discontinued a few months ago, so you probably won't be able to find it.

It works AMAZING. I've ridden over 3000 miles behind it. I'm just tall enough to see over it, and all the wind blows over me. Rides are much more pleasant, and I stay much warmer than without it.

If you're looking for another shield, the Givi 322ST is quite nice, although not quite as tall. You can find it really cheap here: http://www.cli-maxridinggear.com/servle ... een/Detail

If you do some googleing, you may be able to find the Ermax in the USA. The Puig you will probably have to have shipped from overseas.

Good, you'll be pleased. I rode a friend's PCX with the short Givi back in June at a scooter rally in North Carolina to test it out, the short one makes a huge difference over stock. Be sure to post pictures of it in the Gallery forum when you get it all together.

I rode almost a year with the stock one and this is a big difference. No more wind beating me in the chest. It's great now that it's getting cooler outside too. A little more noise in my helmet but I'm already used to it.

I've ordered one from Cli-max too, and I'm waiting....waiting.... I tried to give the stock windscreen a fair chance and I liked the look, but with the temperatures falling wind protection seems much more important . How long did it take before they shipped yours Felix?

How long have you been waiting? When I ordered mine, the retailler sent the order to Givi USA and Givi USA sent the windshield to me directly. It took less than two weeks. If you've waited any longer than that, give them a call, such a long wait is crazy.

I ordered it on Oct 25th. They did send an email that said:

"Recently GIVI opted to cease drop shipments to customers through indirect dealers like Cli-MAX Riding Gear. In order for us to continue to provide great prices on GIVI items our company must order directly from GIVI, and receive the items at our location in Texas before shipping out completed orders via FEDEX. Unfortunately this process creates a delay that we have little control of, and we ask that our customers expect at least two weeks in receiving GIVI orders."

They haven't charged my credit card yet either so I'm not frustrated with them. I'm just really wanting my windscreen as the temperatures cool. Besides, it will be our first mod and chance to work on our PCX.

I haven't had a chance to call, but I just found an email in my inbox that said it has shipped! I know one project for the upcoming weekend and I'm looking forward to it. At least, I think it will be here by the weekend. FedEx has it, but isn't giving an delivery estimate yet.

At that price I got 2. Now - I did pay $6.95 for shipping (it wasn't more for 2) but I wanted exact OEM size/font/style. I'm sure you can get cheaper stickers on ebay but I couldn't find the exact same one online.

I have not order my shield yet. I am having a tough time deciding if keeping the wind off my hands is worth the extra $59.00 that the differance between shield with hand protection and one with out.

Also which company ships from texas I need to stay away from that one other wise I'll have to pay taxes on the widshield which will add to the cost.

Cli-Max ships from Texas, but you may find that the price is cheaper there on the Givi windscreen even with sales tax because they only charge $11.98 for shipping.

As for the hand protection, it might be worth it to have that integrated. I ordered my Givi before I realized that it could be an option and I'm not sure how much protection the Givi D322ST will offer to my hands, if anything. My main goal is to not feel the wind pressure pushing me back on the seat and to be able to ride in the 30's comfortably with my current gear. I haven't had serious issues with cold hands yet.

Our Givi arrived on Friday and we installed it yesterday. Thanks for the how-to Maddiedog that made it very easy! I'd like to add one detail that helped us. We initially had a tough time removing the plastic panel until we pulled out our trusty plastic bike tire levers. They were the perfect tool to slip under the panel at the top of each side and pop the tabs out gently. It was all very easy after that. It looks like a huge improvement and I can't wait to try it out.
