Two sets of Sonic springs and retainers are $17.27. ;) All dimensions same except Sonic springs (2) are 1mm shorter but the outer one is 3 mm larger. ID of retainer and seat is identical.

Where will we get honda sonic parts in the US? Plus pcx 125&150 have different size valve springs. For $17 it's worth a shot though.

Do you not think though after spending that time and money on a big bore kit fitted why scrimp on a set of springs that may not be as good as a set for not that much more money. What's the differance, €30 of something. It's a trip to the cinema and a box of popcorn money.

Agree. Valve springs are often overlooked and are critical

Maddiedog i think what we are ALL saying is trust us. It's a needed investment and part of the cost of a high performance engine.

Dave, since my wife wants me to go to a smaller bike, what do you think about a Reflex? I know they are carburetor instead of fuel injection, but they are also 250 cc vs. My Burgman which is 400. There are several for sale. They have a low enough seat height that she can ride it if she wants to, like the Burgman but it weighs a lot less....I think.

Well, today I really did it. I traded my Beautiful Suzuki Burgman 400 for another red 2013 PCX 150. I loved the Burgman but it was getting to be a bit of a challenge for me to hold it up on windy days. I rode the little pcx home and it was like down sizing to a mini bike! Oh well, at least my wife and I will have matching bikes and since she and I use to go to all sorts of places I hope we will continue to do that. Meanwhile, no messages from Dave, yet. I guess he has his hands full.

I'd say probably not. Wait a year or two first, the Thai or Japanese scooter scene will figure things out and we'll get parts after they do. The kits are expensive, it's best to wait and take your time. Plus, you won't see nearly as much a difference with the new 2014 -- the PCX 150 is a fair bit more powerful than the PCX 125.

Sure, I'll trust all of you guys. Let's make a deal -- I'll get valve springs, and all of you can come to my house and install it for me. That work? ;) I am not getting valve springs at this time. Stop asking please!

No progress yet! Progress soon though. Having the parts to do the mod is prerequisite to actually doing them, and the kit I ordered was on backorder.

Been so busy lately, I haven't been on! I'm excited to see your PCX. They're wonderful bikes, and I'm glad you guys added one to the family. :) You made a good decision by passing on the Reflex, they're prone to running lean from the carb, and are nowhere near as durable as more modern FI bikes.

Update time!

I have the kit in, and the bike hauls ass! I put about a mile on it, and unintentionally did a wheelie pulling out of the driveway. :D


Some notes:

- I took pics of the ENTIRE process, and will write a comprehensive how-to very soon (two howtos, first how to completely dismantle a PCX, including steps for each panel, and a 2nd for how to install a big bore kit). The instructions with the kit are not straightforward and in Japanese, so a lot of the process was trial and error. Regardless, the process is fairly straightforward, and only has a few difficult parts. I feel confident anyone with a garage and some patience can do it, and even will include an exact list of the tools you'll need to do the job.

- The camshaft was slightly difficult to get out, but IMPOSSIBLE to transfer the idle lobe over to the new cam. The old cam was put back in. You NEED a bearing press for that part, and I don't have one.

- The injector was trivial to install, and was installed along with the kit.

- I did not pull my valves and lap them. I don't have time for that, or a clamp to remove the valve springs with. It goes without saying that I did not replace the springs either. I will see huge improvements from the kit alone, based on my experience so far.

- I did check the valve clearances, and they're in spec after over 6000 miles without checking.

- The gear up kit and that howto is next -- I did not get around to it yet, I ran short on time. I started, but the clutch is way overtightened from the factory, and even my impact drill could not remove it.

I'm going motocamping with Maddie and the PCX this upcoming weekend, so it'll get a lot of wear and breaking in then. Anticipate another update after then! :D

The decompression device on the cam to help starting. It keeps the exhaust cam open slightly during startup to take the load off the battery.
