Forza 300 Speedo inaccurate

Has anybody notice there speedo reads higher then actual speed , ( I used my gps to check) mine reads 6 k.p.h. too high ! I know there is a+ or - tolerance but to me this is way off ,what happens when the tires wear and the overall diameter is smaller ? The wheels go faster and my speedo will read even higher! I'm going to look into this as I have some contacts at honda Canada.

Most speedos read high by up to 10% but will never under read.

The speedo on my 2010 sh150 is 1 kph high,the speedo on my st1300 was bang on, the speedo in my 2012 silverado is 2 kph high,the speedo in my 2008 honda fit is 2 kph high,the speedo in my 2013 honda fit is 2 kph high , I agree with you on most speedos read high but man does the speedo read way too high on the 2014 forza 300 ! To me it's way too inaccurate I can't remember the speedo tolerances allowed in canada ,but I will look into it.

Ok found some info according to manufacture engineer standards J1226 electric automotive speedos (at 90 kph and range ) the allowable range for speed is 4%of the highest reading shown on the speedometer that means on the forza + or - 6.4 kph so it's within these specs at 90 kph and above but mine is out of wack below 90 kph ,even at 65 kph and that's with new tires wait until the tires wear down to the wear markers in 10000 kilometers or less!

Simple and best solution is stop using your gps.

I have owned a few scooters over the years and found that not one of them had an accurate speedometer in them.

When I modded my Zuma with a 70cc kit and racing pipe I could no longer use the Zuma speedo as it would not read past 45 mph. I used a hand held Garmin GPS unit that I mounted on the bars. Worked great and gave me a more accurate reading for how fast I was traveling.

............... .....my FORZA only reads 2 mph faster than my ZUMO GPS at 60 mph.....more accurate by far than "most" of my Motorcycles and Scooters over the years..... ...the only Ones I've ever owned that matched the ZUMO was a 2008 Gold Wing 1800, 2007 Triumph Speed Triple, and a 2013 Gold Wing 1800 F6B.......the FORZA represents the most accurate Scooter I've owned to date.....

That is great to know. My Suzuki Burgman is exactly reading 10% higher.
I'm glad to hear that the Honda Forza is speedometer in the USA is almost accurate.

I installed a gps on mine and it was right on up to 55mph, didn't test it faster than that yet. Very accurate on mine anyway.

I've GPS confirmed my and my girlfriend's PCX... They are as dead on as can be!

If the speedometer says 60mph, it's doing 60mph!

My first bike the Kymco Super 8 was off by 5-6 Mph most of the time.

When I first bought my Forza, I tested the speedo with my GPS and it was perfect at any speed.

The thing to remember about bike speedos is they're usually driven by one of the wheels....
most are driven by the front wheel, but the Forza is driven by the final drive or rear wheel...I haven't confirmed which yet.
But blip the throttle while idling on the centerstand and the speedo spins up when the rear wheel spins up.

On wheel driven speedometers, the unit is calibrated for a specific tire circumference.....
that means if you use a different sized tire or sometimes even the SAME sized tire from another maker,
the speedo goes farther out of calibration.

Most engineers wisely use the tallest tire they can find for calibration.....
from that, the shorter the tire, the more "optimistic" the speedo reading.

As someone else mentioned, from the manufacturer point of view, it's ok if your speedo reads a little high.....
but if it reads even 1mph low, you might be forced to issue a RECALL on the speedo and replace it.
That just happened here recently with a Chinese scooter.

But usually if you stick with the OEM tire style, the motorcycle speedos are pretty accurate these days....
I've had speedos where you just averaged out the extreme oscillations of the needle swing to estimate your speed.

I checked this out yesterday and confirmed the speedometer cable on the Forza 300 is driven by the final drive, visible from the right side, on top of the FD gearbox.

I will recheck my speedo in the spring time as now I put the taller tire michelin city grip 150/70-13 I'm going to guess it will be more accurate then the stock rear tire.
