I don't mind it, but I prefer modern scooters. I do wish we got metal body panels like they do, though.

Yes and no.
Lambrettas have metal panels on a tube spine frame, Vespas are an all-metal monocoque with no tubular framing.

I don't rate old two stroke Italian scooters as practical transport compared to modern scooters, but they can be simply gorgeous.
Honda's Cub is the biggest selling vehicle of all time, outselling Vespas entire production by more than three to one.
But how many Honda Cubs do you see still in use?
People love Vespas and Lambrettas because they have history and style and are beyond cool, there's something about them which no other scooters will ever have.

If I could afford to have a second "weekend" scooter it would be a Vespa.

Interesting, I didn't realize Vespas had no traditional tube frame. I guess they have a central support tube that the engine swingarm and steering stem mounts on though, correct?

Also, you mentioned you wanted a Vespa -- what model? I'd love a smallframe, like an old PK125S. Gah, that would be lotsa fun. Nowhere near as economical as the PCX though.

I had a new 2003 Vespa 125 GT as a first scoot which was a mistake. Picked it up after doing a CBT and within 2 hours had put a dent in it! I eventually dropped it again and it was an insurance write off. Stayed away from them but almost got a 300 GTS instead of a PCX. In the end it came down to cost as the PCX was over half the price and also was terrified i would drop it, while if i drop the PCX it is just some plastic panels need replacing.

After my PCX, I couldn't ever be interested in a modern Vespa, only a classic.

The 300GTS is a beast, I've seen a few on the highway. They're big, but still pretty nimble.

Nope, think exoskeleton.
What you see when you look at the bodywork of all modern Vespas is the frame.

PCX is way more efficient too.

Not really, in the real world it's only marginally better on fuel than a PX125 which has the advantage of never needing pulled apart to check the valve clearances...
A GTS300 can be coaxed to 90 imperial mpg and can routinely return 80 mpg.

I too bought a PCX rather than a Vespa based on price-v-quality+practicality.
PCX for £2270 or Vespa for £3300.... No contest, PCX won.
There's some horror stories doing the rounds about some modern Vespas rusting prematurely, given that I live within yards of the sea, a metal Vespa is a big no-no for a daily hackabout.
I've never known plastic to rust

So which Vespa would I have...?
As it would just be a weekend toy it would have to be a shiny new PX150 in blue.
Or maybe a 46.

That's similar to my opinion. It's not suited to my tastes.
