Daytime Riding with High Beam?

I had a thought the other day (always a potential disaster...). Wouldn't running the high beam during the day give me a bit more visibility? I don't believe that I would be blinding anyone given that their pupils are adjusted for the sun (or at least daylight clouds).

Does anybody think this is a bad idea, or see a downside?

My husband and I ride with high beams on during the day. It was suggested by the guy who sold us our scooters, and we thought it was a good idea.

I always have the high beam on in the day, even my msf course instructor said to do that.

High beam should only ever be used at night when there is no traffic coming towards you or in front of you.

When I follow my wife on my scooter, she will pull over if I have the high beams on and tell me to turn them down. I am sure that people in cars feel the same way. You definitely can tell when they are on, and if you are following someone, you are probably doing a good job of irritating them.

I ride with my high beams on majority of the day time. Only exception is shaded areas or if it's cloudy out. But sunny days... high beams!

High beam during the day and at night in rural areas and no traffic. In town low beam at night.

always have the high beam on....i do flick it off if i am going to be behind someone for a extended period....but then there back on..

I always ride with my high beams on. Day time riding it does nothing other than make you more visible, night riding I still keep high beams on until I get a flash from another motorist or am following another car on a single lane road at night. You're on a small ride, it's important to be seen.

My MSF course instructor also said to ride with your brights on during the day. I think I would go by their recommendations. I sometimes ride with them on during the day but usually I don't.

I ride with my high beams on during the day. Anything to give me a little more visibility to other
drivers is helpful.

Most of the time yes. I have noticed a direct correlation between having it on and reduced attempts by people to change into my lane unexpectedly. Also, in CA, it DEFINITELY helps with visibility while lane splitting. I will cut them down on 2 lane roads usually.

I have a load of LED's on my bike so i removed the left bulb (was dimming slightly with the led, twin headlight and heated grips) and ride full beam in the day and low beam at night, doesnt seem to make any difference to what i can see at night but i think side visible LED's are well worth it!

dude how many leds lol i tend to do to the fact it does seem to make a difference and gn2 you do have a piont with the moms so best thing is watch the road

Both occasions where my wife and I were almost hit, the driver of the vehicle (both were SUVs driven by soccer moms) was on the phone, turning around to talk to their kids, and changing lanes. At what point would the high beams have helped? In both cases the vehicles were beside us, and the driver didn't even look when they moved into our lane. In fact, the drivers in both cases almost hit other cars while doing everything except drive. This is a constant problem here. We also have those Lexus owners who believe that the law does not apply to them. They will run lights like the lights weren't even there. They will turn right from the center lane. They will never stop at stop signs. And worst of all, they will cut through parking lots and gas stations at full speed just so they won't have to wait for the light. It is almost as though the Lexus sales force told them that they are better than everyone else...but maybe they are, and maybe it is OK to run over people on scooters. Who knows? All I know is that 9 out of 10 close calls have a Lexus in the picture.
