top box mount without drilling holes in the tail
Since I found out that I would have to drill holes in the tail piece of my 2013 Pcx150 to mount a top box--using the mounting kit provided by Honda--I have been hard at it trying to cook up some way to mount a box without drilling. I don't intend to use the box more than once a week. I need a temporary mounting procedure. Much tanks in advance for any leads on a process to accomplish what seems like a simple feat.

Re: top box mount without drilling holes in the tail
I think I saw, somewhere on this forum, a set of side bags that are leather or cloth that are removable. I think they drape under the seat, using the closed seat to keep it secure. Also, I created a way to attach things to the seat behind the rider, so I know you could at least carry some stuff behind you if you needed to.

The drilling holes process is no big deal. It's clearly marked wear to drill.

Used a stepped hole cutter or cone cutter and you can't go far wrong.

Re: top box mount without drilling holes in the tail
i think maybe he is concerned with not wanting the holes there when he wants to take the box off , the tail piece is fairly cheap if i recall so just buy another tail peice and your done , no need to rig some unsafe way to have a box or wast the time doing it

I definitely agree with that. I pulled my tail piece off and drilled it out in a matter of minutes, knowing that I could purchase a replacement piece cheap. ($12.41)

I am replying to this so late because I was not aware there was anything to reply to--I was expecting some kind of email notification from the forum. As it turns out, the idea came to me that I could attach the metal rack Honda provides for topbox mounting without using the tail piece at all--just leave it off, store it and reinstall it if and when the time came to trade bike in. This concept almost immediately morphed into (or exchanged itself for) something like what you describe above--except I went looking not for a new piece, which I had no hint of a notion would be as cheap as 12$, but a used one, which I found on Ebay for 16.50 shipping included. I have mounted my topbox with the original tail piece removed and have been driving around with a bare rear end--so to speak. I am in the process of drilling out the Ebay acquisition and soon I'll be whole again. Of course the faring I got on Ebay would have to be while--my machine is red. Well, so I'll be two toned for a while.

You could even sand that part down to its basic black and use it like that, though you can find matching paint if you want to pay the added price. I think I would just paint it flat black to match the metal it attaches to. Leaving the tailbox rack on is a great option. You can use the Honda one all by itself and it looks good. It will give you a place to attach items to.
