How do I remove this screw?

Just figured I would practice on removing panels since I have some free time this weekend. I consider this to be a new hobby of mine, as I would like to learn how to do some of my own basic service consering the Honda dealerships are incredibly slow or just very busy. As you can see, my left side cover for the variator and belt is cracked, among other panel damage from falling off my bike the other day. I belive I can handle the other side panels, but this particular one is giving me the mot trouble. So my question is...how do I remove the bolt as seen here which is the one on the right lower part of the panel (can't fit my socket piece). Also, how do I remove the center bolt (not pictured) that my extended socket wrench piece just will not reach?

The one that's pictured, take the tube off the metal pipe to give more access, if the socket still won't go on try a ring spanner, if that won't go on you need a slimmer tool.
The centre bolt you just need a slimmer tool.

I have seen this problem and was unable to get it off as well, On the breather tube there is a clip holding the the rubber dust cover on that is impossible to get past the bolt :/

Left it for now as I have no need to check my belt just yet.

Bought a smaller socket wrench with a 10 inch extender for the deep middle bolt. The lower right difficult bolt is the one I could still not remove, even with the skinniest ring spanner I could find from Lowe's.

1/4 inch drive deep sockets are usually quite slim unless you buy really cheap ones. That's what I used.

Couldn't you use a standard crescent wrench?

I bought a set of crescent wrench/ring spanners. None will fit, as the amount of space to work with is literally that small to work with. It makes me wonder how those people showing how to change their variators on Youtube managed to get that particular screw off. They always skip that step in the videos.

Hmm, I'll take a look tonight and see if I can get the bolt off my PCX and report back here with results...

To me the metallic part looks damged from the fall.Try taking off the rubber bit. Stick a screwdriver into the metal tube and bend it away from the bolt (downward).
It might help with getting a small 8mm socket in there. Take it slow bending it, if it breaks or cracks the replacement doesn't look like fun.
I just looked at mine and an 8mm small socket fits in there. Good luck

I think the drain tube was bent in your spill, as Urban PCX suggested. Carefully bend it back and use a standard socket to remove.

Success! I bent the pipe back with the screwdriver in the hole, but not too much to damage the pipe or the screwdriver. I was able to move it clockwise a few centimeters, enough to be able to fit my socket or ring spanner. Thanks for all of your help! The support on this forum is amazing, and it makes me happy to be an owner of a great scooter, and in good company with fellow PCX owners on this forum.

Full disclosure...I also asked this same question on the "other" PCX forum. Guess I had them stumped. No replies.

We might be the smaller of the two forums, but that's only because they've been around almost a year longer (this site isn't even 6 months old!), and because they pay for advertising on Google.

I like to think that, one day, we might be the bigger forum, only because of good, solid content. Either way, I'm content. Our community here is small, but really good.

I much prefer this forum, and the fact its smaller adds to it. Theres a better community here IMO and you get to know people here instead of just random people dotted all over the place that you have never spoke to before.

Lol. There were a few posts of mine that got mysteriously deleted on the other forum. The were a few questions from people regarding where the they could get replacement parts or touch up paint for there PCX. When I recommended my powersportsplus.com site for cheap replacement parts (especially panels; sorry I don't know about touch up paint) all but one of those posts vanished. I tried to be nice to both sides given the heat that existed a few months back between the 2 sites, since I try to be a neutral party. However, I don't think I will be going on their site anymore.

Also, for GN2, I actually did buy the J. Costa variator... Haven't installed it yet. Waited for about a month on back order before it arrived, a couple days ago earlier this week, in fact. This is of course, before I really read the arguments about its true effectiveness. My goal is really to replace the cracked panels to make my PCX look normal again. I don't want debris going through the cracks and getting on my belt. So maybe I will try the variator when I have time to mess with that stuff in a couple weeks, or maybe it will end up on Craigslist. I haven't decided yet...

What you purchase and bolt to your scooter is a matter of personal choice

No point in you buying it then not fitting it.
The thing that bothers me is vendors making unsubstantiated outlandish claims.

Would you mind doing before / after time and acceleration tests in a controlled environment? Something like what I did in this thread at the bottom: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=154, with a few runs on flat, uphill, and downhill to compare before and after acceleration and top speed. A definitive test from an independent 3rd party (like you) would be awesome. If you don't have time, no worries, but I figured it can't hurt for me to ask.
