Dragging

Hey,
A bit weird,
went out about an hour ago for a ride,
obviously pulled the throttle back to go,
and when letting go you gradually slow down...
but for some reason my Bike feels like its dragging back,
not sure how else to explain,
as soon as I let go of the throttle... there was a sudden speed difference and I shuddered forward a bit,
I carried on riding and was noticing it more,
what could be causing this?

Your on a scooter and the clutch is engauged until you get below 10mph. This means its the same as being in a manual transmission car in say first gear at 5000-6000 rpm and letting off the gas while leaving it in gear. The same thing will happen. Does that make any sense? We call it engine braking. Truck drivers do this too. Also the same as being in a manual transmission vehicle and downshifting to slow down instead of using the brakes.

These little pcx scooters have beautiful engine braking. Your brakes last longer and it helps in traffic when you are in stop and go close quarters.Many scooters have it. My Burgman had it. However, the pcx seems to have a greater ability than most other scooters when it comes to engine braking.

How come i've never experienced it before when having the Bike for 2 months now? and doing about 1600 miles in those 2 months....?

Check for a dragging brake. Make sure the wheels spin ok when the engine is off.

I think most of us have left the parking brake on at least once. Could that be it?

Also my dealer seems to adjust my rear brake too tight for my liking. Has it been recently serviced?

Nope, was serviced the first time at 1500 by the previous owner, he left it late!
i've had it about 2 months now, done about 1600 miles..
i've changed the Air Filter and Spark Plug myself,
just changed the Engine Oil yesterday....
Pads on the front look fine,
Drum one looks fine...
was a little odd as, again, it hadn't happened before.

I guess it really depends on how much it is dragging. The PCX is supposed to slow when you let off the gas. It is the first thing that I noticed when I bought mine new and left the dealership. I took off down the road and when I let off the gas (all the way) it really slows itself down with engine braking, much more than I expected. Took a while to get used to that. It's like if you got up into high rpms in 3rd gear or so on a motorcycle and let off the gas (without pulling on the clutch) and downshift on the way down to stopping.

If you are saying that yours was just coasting with zero engine braking before (as if you pulled on the clutch in the example before and coasted freely) then your scooter wasn't working correctly and is operating the way it should now. You should feel that engine braking as the scooter slows down to about 10 mph then you'll notice below that it coasts a little more freely.

I wonder if that started happening to the previous owner after first service and he figured something bad was wrong and sold it. Strange that it would just start now.

It's actually really annoying,
never happened in the past 2 months of having the Bike,
only started the other day,
some times its a little worse than others,
rev, let go, and i'll actually go forward abit,
sometimes its not as bad....
just weird how its only now all of a sudden.

I had a 2019 PCx50 for two years. I discovered what caused these dragging issues. Mine would drag(shudder) when you accelerated from a stop until you got moving. It was more so when the engine hadn't warm up yet. After you rode a while and got it up to operating temperature it would for the most part go away. What causes this issue is the friction pads in the clutch. It must be the type of friction material that Honda uses for these bikes. As the the pads start to wear the mating surface of the friction pads gets shellacked (Burnt slick). This causes the friction pads to slip and grab when engaging the clutch bell, thus the dragging.I have removed the clutch bell and sanded the shellac off the friction pads with some #80 sandpaper and reinstalled the clutch bell. The dragging goes away completely for about 200-300 miles until the pads start to get burnt slick again. The only permanent fix is to find an aftermarket clutch that uses a different material for the friction pads.
