top box thoughts
Here's an idea (from me) regarding a top box design that I would like to see:
Instead of installing the box in a fixed position, design a base mount that would
allow the user to slide the box fore and aft. When riding alone, the box could
be slid forward on its mount rails so that it would be positioned approximately
where a passenger would normally be seated. That would would provide
better PCX balance, and the front of the box (if padded) could be used
as a back rest for the "driver". With a passenger on board, the box could be
pushed to its rearmost position, providing room for the passenger (who could
also use the padded box as a back rest). Of course, some means of locking the
box in each of the two positions would be needed.
Does such a top box already exist ? Probably not.
I'm looking for a top box for my 2015 PCX150, and this thought (above)
occurred to me. Otherwise, is there a top box that comes highly recommended for the
PCX ? I'm thinking along the lines of ~ 35 liters. My PCX is black.
Also: What's generally considered the best tall windscreen for the PCX ? Although I'm
only 5-10, I'm long waisted, so a tall windshield would probably work best for me. I
would want it to be tall enough to minimize wind noise and air turbulence.

I think you haven't taken into consideration that the rail would make it impossible for a passenger to sit comfortably, especially since it would be located through the seat area.

Yeah, Mel, I thought about that. I was just having general thoughts
about how nice it would be if a moveable box could be designed to
provide the advantages that I mentioned.....perhaps a removable passenger seat
pad design (another inch or two as a part of a new rail design) in the
passenger area might be enough. Again, I was just thinking in general
terms. Of course, any time that you make a design change, several
things might have to be made in a different way. Not likely to happen,
but it would be nice if it could be done. The box would be a more
useful accessory, I think, but it would require some very careful
engineering to make it work right.
Still got those other questions about a recommended box and windshield,
though.

Mel, I thought of another problem: If the box were placed in the
"forward" position, how could the seat be lifted up ?
Nothing is ever simple........
Anything is possible, I guess, but the view probably isn't worth
the climb.
Oh, well.
Now....about the recommended REAL top box and tall windshield....

We have the tall Givi windshield on both of our bikes. I too am 5'10" tall with a long waist, and that windshield works well. If it needs to be any taller than that you could actually add another part such as the air foil, or whatever they call that adjustable part that can be added like one of the Givi screens for a Burgman. Also, I had the largest tailbox on my Burgman but opted to sell it with the Burgman when I went to the pcx because it looked too large and stuck out sideways beyond what I consider safe for freeway travel, so it would add to the wind resistance and instability of the rear end. That was just my opinion though. As far as the adjustable tailbox which could act as a backrest for the rider, I have an idea I am working on. In general terms here it is: you can purchase a dense piece of cushion foam from a sewing material store, cut it to curve where your back would meet it, have it upholstered so that it has a wide band of elastic on its bottom. Then slip the elastic under the seat while the seat is opened. Close it. Get on your scooter, and ride. You will now have a removable back rest that will only move back as far as your bucket, and it can be removed for an additional passenger. So, that is the idea I have been working on. I have the foam. I just need to save up for the upholstery. You could also use velcro instead of elastic if you wanted to.

I called Competition Accessories about the Givi 323DT tall windshield. The current one
will not fit the 2015 PCX150.
Per CA's discussion with Givi, the tall windshield (similar to current 323DT) for the 2015 PCX150 is not even
in production yet, with actual production date uncertain. When available, it will have this
part number: D1136ST.
CA suggested that I call them back every couple of weeks.

Which PCX150 top box appears to be most favored by forum folks:
The standard Honda 35 Liter box or Givi's top box(es) of similar size ?
Pros and cons of each ?
FWIW, I could probably get ~ a 15 % discount on the Honda top box,
mount, and lock (from the dealer who sold me the PCX150).

As far as I know, there isn't a top box mounting rack available for the 2015 model yet. I did ask this before, and from what I was told, I'd have to wait for Honda or Givi to release a compatible mounting rack for it.
