Is this normal? - Exhaust
So i have had my bike for about 3 months, ridden around 580 miles daily rider, 5 out of 7 days. Just stopped by my office today and noticed this strange discolouration on my exhaust... Is this normal?

Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
I own a 2012 pcx 125 with 2200 miles ridden regularly I have not got the discoloration as seen on your exhaust.
Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
Yes, perfectly normal, its called rust.
Black painted pipes are not fit for the UK, you'll need to paint it with decent high temperature paint e.g. Sperex.
It might just be dirt, have you tried cleaning it off?

Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
Just thought it was a really weird pattern and wondering if it matched up with any kind of internal baffling. I've got a yoshimura exhaust that'll be going on soon so not too worried.

Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
I've owned my 2015 model 3 months too - since end of May and so far the exhaust shows no signs of rust and I've now done about 1200 miles (20 mile commute there and back 5 days/wk). It's stored outside at home but I always use a cover and it's stored in an underground car park at work. As GN2 said, I expect it to suffer more as Winter comes with salt and crap from the road, along with more rain. No chance of keeping it pristine as per WhiteNoise's spotless scoot (warmer climate helps).

Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
My 2011 has over 12k miles and doesn't show this discoloration, and I ride in all weather. I'm guessing corrosion from being near the coast or road salt does it. GN2's respraying recommendation is spot on. If you want to skimp on the paint, you can just use gas grill paint.

What would be good paint for the vario / clutch cover?

Your tire seems to have some of the same color on it. Are you sure it's not just dirty?
Re: Is this normal? - Exhaust
My 2011 stays on the drive overnight (need to get a cover for the rainy season though) and underground car park during the day. It started showing the rust at around 11k miles. I just cleaned up the rust and painted over with high temp paint from Halfords (thats my second mention of them today... and no I dont have shares in Halfords.. I own it... LOL.. kidding). Worked a treat and fine now.
But seeing as you have a new exhaust going on soon its cool. I would still clean it and paint it once its off and possibly stick it on that popular auction site.. offset the price of the new exhaust a bit ?
