clutch sound... help?
seems my scooter has developed a 'weird' sound from the clutch, sort of sounds like a 'dry bearing' sound, more noticeable when warm, dose anyone else have this?

Yep, looks like you are beginning to hear what we have been having problems with. Buddy1976, you forgot the link. Here is the thread.http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3136
Good luck. The whole part is easier to replace than taking it apart and trying to replace that bearing.

Re: clutch sound... help?
been and now I'm back, i have been told what i am hearing is the belt going around the pulley, i was told its normal, and will sound slightly louder now as everything is broken in a lot more than when new, and not to worry, he said out off the 100's of pcx's they have sold that have had to change only 1 bearing in the clutch!.

Re: clutch sound... help?
Hmmm....one here and one there add up. I know of several who have had this clutch problem. However, since your bike only has 300 miles on it, it won't even break in until close to 2,000 miles, so just monitor the sound and ride. If it sounds really bad after a while instead of better, then take it back to the shop. Ours just got worse, while the dealer seemed to have worse hearing. Even when it was about to lock up he said that it sounded normal, though the rest of the world was asking what was wrong with our bike. We ended up going to another dealer to get it fixed. Hopefully, and I emphasize 'Hopefully', the sound on yours will improve as the parts seat.

Re: clutch sound... help?
thankyou for your input, yes my bike now has around 350 miles so its unlikely to be a bearing i would think, the dealer said keep an eye on it until the 600 mile service, but he said all pcx's sound exactly like mine!

Re: clutch sound... help?
Try spinning the rear wheel backwards whislt scoot is running in idle on the centre stand, if the noise gets louder it will most likely be the bearing problem.danieljw wrote:thankyou for your input, yes my bike now has around 350 miles so its unlikely to be a bearing i would think, the dealer said keep an eye on it until the 600 mile service, but he said all pcx's sound exactly like mine!

Re: clutch sound... help?
Try using some WD 40 on the clutch as it helped me with this

Re: clutch sound... help?
Can't help but wonder if the additional holes you have drilled in the clutch cover might have contributed to the failure by allowing in additional elements. Although that wouldn't ecplain Mel46's failure. So the question is, is this a faulty bearing issue, or a debris/contaminant issue to blame?

Re: clutch sound... help?
The needle bearing is shielded from all elements because two things. It’s incased by the rear Torque Driver, and there is a top sealed bearing at the top. If it was open you would lose a great deal of grease. So that can’t be the issue as other folks are having the same issue. I could tell you it’s from just driving a ton of miles in a year. I think I got my PCX back in Feb with 2903 miles, today it’s around 12k if not more… Since I moved to Escondido I am driving 1200 miles a month just to work and back home.
I’m going to contact Honda parts as soon as, one of these stores open up. Looks like everyone opens at 10am, which I think is crazy!

Re: clutch sound... help?
Just so everyone knows, or those following this thread...I checked the parts fiche for the bearing in question and it's the same part # for 2013 and 2015 models. So, 2015 owners may not necessarily be safe.

Re: clutch sound... help?
Hey guys, I get some weird noise and vibration just when I'm taking off till 5-10 miles. It's like some metal is hitting another metal, can't really describe it, but you can feel strong vibrations. Then when I'm about to stop, you can here similar noise, but this time it's like something is banging twice or three time and that's again between 10-5 miles range.
Could it be the same reason as you are stating here? My bike is on 13 000 miles and I haven't changed anything apart from oil, drive oil, spark plugs and a filter.
Thank you and Regards.

Re: clutch sound... help?
First change your belt. Then listen for the sound by spinning the rear wheel backwards. If it is still there, time to change the bearing assembly. Ours started to really sound loud at 10,000 miles. Just be aware of that.

Re: clutch sound... help?
Sorry guys it's be sometime i have said anything worthwhile. But i can confirm that PART #19 in the rear torque driver is the bearing that fails.
19 91002-GA7-701 BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6902U) (NTN) 1
19 91009-KVY-961 BEARING, RADIAL BALL (6902U) (NSK) 1
My thoughts why it fails, is because the inner side is open and just packed with a very heavy white grease. When that grease dries out, the bearing gets hot and can get contaminated with belt dust, and grit. I finally got around to replacing #19 on the parts diagram of the clutch system, and there was a huge difference in sound. Also you’ll have to remove needle bearing which I usually pound out with an 3/8 extension for a ratchet and replace it with a new one.

Re: clutch sound... help?
Sorry to raise an old thread - I always try to resurrect vs starting a new one:)
So there are two choice for both bearings 18 and 19. Which one is the correct one? Why is there big price difference between the bearing suppliers?
Am I correct to assume the bearing 18 is pressed in but bearing 19 will slide out if the circ clip(no. 23 on the diagram) is taken out first?
