Technical help?

To prevent cluttering of the How-To subforum, I've created this Technical Help subforum. Post any questions about maintenance, etc. here.

I might lock How-To to prevent posting of new threads, and move over how-tos from here if they're posted.

I may also go through and copy over some topics from General that I moved from how-to. What say you? Do you guys like the idea of this subforum, and the thought of having this specifically for technical issues?

I say leave the how to section for the how to's that have been done. Use the tech section for people asking for help. If some one wants to submit a how to, you approve it before it gets posted to the how to section.

With less clutter in the how to section, people can search through all of them easily and if they still need help they can ask questions in the tech section.

It's possible that people are mistaking he how to section for asking how to, not posting how you actually do a specific task? I looks like that to me. It maybe needs a tweak in the title.

"I do like" going straight to the How To sub forum especially when time is pressing and "a fix" visual is always such a plus. I'm also understanding how one sub forum can lead right into the other. This may even create over lap. So yes, I do see your point maddiedog. This is a tricky call. Perhaps as Ali suggests, maybe tweak the already How To sub forum title: maybe along these lines? "ask, answers and how to's"....but then that will probably cause a lot of congestion. Then we will be hunting for the visual How To's Wow....what's the answer here? Tough one. Keep both sub forums separate?
Chime in folks...really need opinions.

Hello all!

I'm brand new to the forum. I'm based in Colorado, USA and I just purchased a used, black 2013 PCX-150! I'm pretty excited to get riding although I'm waiting for the DMV to open tomorrow to get it registered. One problem the bike has is a pretty deep scrape across the back grab rail cover. I looked through the various part manuals posted to this site and part vendors online but could not be sure of the exact part to order. I would need a black cover.

hondapartshouse.com has two covers listed:

The parts manual posted to this forum list the following part for pearl magellanic black as:

didn't see any listed for candy red which i thought was strange.

Anyway, I got the feeling the two different types are different colors. Not sure the code for links on this forum yet.

Thank you for the tips! My bad posting in the wrong thread. It looks as though that is the part I need. I wasn't sure which part was which color, but that fact that it says "black" pretty much puts that confusion to rest.

No problem. The funny thing is the part you listed above, the ZB part is the red one I think. Maybe the parts manual messed up.

Hello,
The centre piece (plastic) where the fuel flap is has unclipped from the right side fairing, how does this clip back in?
It looks like it all leads to the bolt just in front of the seat? This bit slots under the neck piece?
Anyone clipped these on before?

It is easy to take care of that problem. The best way to handle it would be to take the seat off first because it gets in the way. This is done by removing 2 screws that attach the seat to the frame. It is a little difficult to put them back in but not impossible. Once the seat is out of the way, unscrew the center screw that you see and open the fuel door. There is a metal frame around the fuel door that is attached to the part you want to move around....the black center piece. If you are aware of that you should be able to lift it out and then reinsert the tabs where they need to be. The fuel door itself has a cable that is used to open the door. You probably don't need to disconnect and reconnect it unless you are totally removing it. Good luck, but know that others have done this before so there are a lot of folks who can answer your questions.

I had to remove this panel to reconnect the fuel door cable which was left off or slipped off during my last dealer service. If you remove the bolt you mentioned, you can just pop the panel back in place. No need to remove the seat but it helps to have it in the open position.

Honda, in both the owner's manual and the 2013-2015 service manual recommends Pro Honda HP4M 4-stroke oil SAE 10w30 and JASO MB T903 or equivalent!
I paid a local Honda/Yamaha dealer slightly less than $200 to do the 600 mile oil change and checkup. I see from the receipt that they put high performance 10w40 oil in my 2015 PCX. When I called and asked what oil they had used, the service manager told me Yamalube 10w40 motorcycle oil, that would be the equivalent of the recommended Honda oil.
I asked if it was jaso mb rated, he said yes. It seems, per the onboard MPG reading that the best mileage I am getting since the oil change, and possible valve adjustments is 89 to 91 mpg or about 10 percent less than before. Per the oil specs website ( sorry I wanted to paste it here but can't figure out how), jaso mb oil is twice or more as slick as jaso ma oil. Jaso MA ( in most motorcycle oils) is for those bikes with wet clutches and transmissions in the same oil as the engine. That is not the case with the PCX. Near as I can tell, even the gears on the final reduction area do not share the engine oil. They do want it as well as the oil in the rear wheel parts to be the same however?
I can only find pro Honda, and redline oils at Amazon with a jaso mb spec.. Both local Honda dealers only carry the Pro Honda oil in saw 10w40 viscosity. Even my 2005 Odessey van says 5w20 on the filler cap.
I don't remember what motor oil I used in my two Honda CX500s, but it was just engine oil. I used Texico Havoline 10w40 I think in my 1970 Honda CB350. I don't really race my bikes, but I don't baby them either, and never had and engine or clutch/transmission trouble either. Since only the engine is in the oil change, I am tempted to just use a full synthetic motor oil, but would also like it to have some Moly in it.
Any oil experts out there?

Did you get the scooter from this dealer, if so I would expect the scooter to come from the factory and be filled by the dealer, using 10-40 Yamalube.

This forum has a long way to go before it becomes complicated, I have never seen one so choked back in features. When we have hundreds online at any given moment Maddie will need lots of help and he will still have his hands full LOL. Advertisements will be overwhelming and it will turn a tidy profit. We should all hope it never gets like a Dodge Ram Truck forum... absolute craziness 24-7 and you can't get any help.

No the dealer I bought it from wanted $275 for the service, and had a BBB score of F, while the Honda/Yamaha dealer had a BBB score of A+. Almost wish I had done it myself, but after looking at the service manual, I was afraid I'd break some plastic taking it apart to get to the valves. Hope they checked them.

I run Mobil1 Extended performance 5w-30. a 10w/40 could be just slightly thick enough in a low horsepower motor to sap 10% fuel economy.
