Rear Sound, not right :-/

Post by jojo87 »

(This was the first time starting the Bike today and it's rather cold)

What is this noise? never noticed it before,
don't think it was there when I got the Bike,
I started noticing a noise when going through narrow Lanes (walls either side) or close against a long row of Vehicles...
not sure whether this is what's causing that but still, I don't think this is right.

I'm not that mechanical so don't know that much,
some people might not of read my previous threads but this Bike has only had 1 proper service,
but this was late, at around 1500 miles (so automatically messed up the warranty),
I was told to wait until 5000 to get the 2nd one done,
BUT, I changed the Spark Plug, the AirBox Filter, and the Engine Oil myself at around 5000 miles so didn't bother taking it into a Garage
(as the ones near me said they don't know too much about Honda Scooters)
I know about the Valve Check but was told that if the Bike it running fine and the Exhaust sounds fine etc then there isn't too much of a rush to get that done.
(and that you don't have to get that sorted until 10,000 miles?)

I'm probably on about 5500 miles now....
but starting to notice a few things, this sound being 1 of them, and again, noticing an annoying sound on that side of the Bike when going through Lanes etc,
so this might actually be causing that sound i'm hearing anyway, so would love to get this sorted.....
the other thing is rattling when going between 30-40mph with the throttle pulled, once let go the rattling goes,
this sounds like its from the front of the Bike, might just be 1 of the fairings,
I cant get a clear audio of it though as obviously riding 30-40mph and my Helmet Camera picks up too much wind to hear it.

But I do want to get THIS sound sorted,
again, not sure what it could be, I moved the Camera round a bit as you can hear the sound more faint when going to the front of the Bike,
I just read about the Final Drive Oil... this is something I DIDN'T CHANGE!! could this be linked with it all? as it's in the same area....
but I did read to change this 10,000 miles or every 2 years, I ride A LOT though.....

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :-)

JoJo, I would wait for one more experienced but it sounds like the rattle you hear both on the stand and while driving is coming from under that silver cover (CVT) and if that's the case surely you want to look at the roller wear. Sounds like a bingo parlor ball mixer in there  Good news would be a woman of your capabilities could swap them out for 15.00 USD. But then of course there is always all these bearing threads that sound similar.

I've changed Rollers in my previous Bikes, not a problem, but the sound seems to be on the other side, not the Roller part, but the far end bit (cant remember what that bits called in there) if you know what I mean.
is it normal for the Rollers to go this soon?

and i'm not sure which ones I should be getting?

Did you get a new helmet? Once I rode without a helmet and thought the thing was falling apart.

I have yep, got 2, but the sound I was hearing while riding was with my previous Helmet as well... same with all 3,
with the Visor up and down, and leaning over to the side you can hear it,
really annoying, especially when idle.

Jojo - mine sounds like yours - has since new. I've mentioned my PCX was louder than most other before, but it seems some are just noiseir. Be interesting to see of others confirm you really have a fault.

Be patient and bump this now and then... Americans are in the middle of their working day :) The PCX upper echelon mechanics are hard working salt of the earth... I salute em!
