PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?

PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
I just called my local Honda Motorsports dealer and he quoted me this. He also told me they should have my Forza fuel pump in the next few days for the recall.
Does this seems reasonable? I already bought a gallon of Honda oil and plug crush washers and did the 600 mile myself. I guess I may as well let them do everything this time while it is there. They have a lot of scooter (including PCX and Forza) experience other scooter owners are telling me I have met in the dealership.
$219 for full 2500 service
$149 for valve adjustment only

That valve job sounds very reasonable if their mech has ever done a 2015 model. Anyone attempting to remove panels can't go at it with old school mentality. The monkey needs patients and the new SM in hand or he will break some stuff and you may never know what's missing. I have intentionally left off the new trim clips from the side covers because they are such a pain and so frail and wont replace them until after the service is done. I don't know how many more trim clips were used in the panels on 2015 but I will know soon enough. opps... never mind I was thinking you had a 2015 one.SECoda wrote:I just called my local Honda Motorsports dealer and he quoted me this. Re: PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
I just checked the bill for my valve adjustment at the dealership for a 2013. It was $110 per hour. They didn't break-down the costs so that i can determine the cost of the valves alone ( i had the coolant tank replaced at the same time). i am guessing that it took less than 1 hour to check the valves.
If the $219 includes a new air filter (cost apx $11), it doesn't sound too bad.
They are going to charge you to check the tire pressures; oil level, brake fluid level, turn signals..... as part of the $219. You don't need those things done. See what the quote is for "a la carte" service. Have him give you the list of what they will do and you cross out the items you don't need. See if they will do the whole thing for $175.
Of course, you don't want to irritate anyone at the service department before they work on your scooter. So i took them a box of cookies from the grocery store (50 cookies for $5 and they looked good). Then crossed-out some items on the work order.

He said $219 includes multipoint check (including brakes and all fluids and lubes) and air filter. Maybe some Krispy Kremes.
I have already seen how they remove the panels. They are very adept at it and have much better Honda tools than my Harbor Freight stuff.
They have bins of all of those clips for every type vehicle.
Re: PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
Now I am not sure what to do. So I took my PCX past my Arctic Cat dealer buddy who sold me an AC ATV 300 4WD ten years ago. I told him my Honda needed service like a valve adjustment, air filter, oil, strainer clean, etc. He got on it and listened a while and did a few things driving around and asked me a few questions (about mileage and top speed). Then he said don't waste your money on the valve adjustment. He is the AC service in the area and has a great reputation and has been here for maybe 30 years. What do you think?

Re: PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
I read many of the older posts on this forum about the valve adjustment. 3 people said that the valves were out of adjustment at their 600 mile service. Once they were adjusted, they never again went out of adjustment. If you had them checked at 600, you probably don't need to worry.
The air filter costs $11. You have to order it and wait 7 days because the dealers don't stock many scooter parts. Installing it was easy. Unscrew 6 or 7 screws (phillips head) and the cover pops off. But put some marks on the old filter with a Sharpie (and make a corresponding mark on the scooter) before you pull it out. I put in the new filter with no problem. Then wanted to take a 2nd look and pulled it out. I couldn't get it back in ..... it would not seem to slip into place. It took 2 minutes and then it fit. But if i had put a mark on the old filter i could have seen where i was going wrong.
White Noise (forum member) had a video about the oil strainer. Looks easy.
Changing the oil itself is very easy. I would like a forum member to tell me why i had trouble getting the oil to the correct line on the dipstick (one forum member said that the dipstick measures differently if you read the "top" or "bottom" of the dipstick. he said to fill to the top of the dipstick, not the bottom...... if that is true, watch the position of the dipstick as you remove it). I kept adding oil slowly to reach the correct level and suddenly i was overfull.... so maybe his hint is true.

I already did the oil/crush washer and that was easy. I heard to use the correct socket (6 point) on the strain cover or it may strip. Thx.

to read the stick correctly;yak wrote: I would like a forum member to tell me why i had trouble getting the oil to the correct line on the dipstick.
center stand
remove stick
wipe clean
insert stick without touching the sides of the port at anytime
do not turn theads
remove stick without touching the sides of the port at anytime
too much oil not good... crank shaft will dip into reservoir
so say someone here
Re: PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
I decided to do everything myself again and just went through the maintenance schedule for 2500 miles. So nothing is required except inspections and the crankcase breather cleaning it appears - not even the air filter (the Honda service guy said to check it before ordering one). I will change the oil regardless. The oil even now )changed at 600) looks like it just came out of the new container but it can't hurt. Except for a bit of wear on the tires I don't think someone could tell it didn't just come off of the showroom floor. I only ride on clean dry roads and we have virtually no dust here.

Re: PCX 150 2500 Mile Service?
The air filter on my previous scooter (49cc Honda Metropolitan) was medium-dirty at 2,500 miles. I bought it at 2,000 miles. I had to wait 7 days for the filter to arrive from the warehouse in Iowa. $11. My PCX has 2,100 on it and i already bought the filter. Will change it at 2,500.
