Aloha from Maui - new rider intro

Hello all,

I just picked up a 2013 PCX150 with 7400 miles on the clock and thought I'd introduce myself. I bought the bike as an upgrade to my little 49cc and wow what an upgrade. It's a magic carpet ride. I'm looking forward to doing some wrenching on it soon but will just be doing some riding for awhile enjoying the new (to me) machine.

This forum was a great source of info when I was doing my research on what I wanted to buy. Thanks everyone for sharing their experiences and expertise.

I bought my 2013 PCX one month ago. Before that i drove a Honda Metropolitan 49cc. That scooter got me 117 mpg. I was happy when the PCX got 100 mpg at my first fillup. What did you pay for your PCX?
Don't forget that the PCX won't start with the side stand (kickstand) down.

My 49cc is a Genuine Roughhouse and I average 85 MPG with that. Based on what I read here I'm hoping to at least equal that with the PCX. Time will tell.

I paid $2000 even for it, which I understand might be a tad on the high side based on mileage for the mainland. Here on Maui a used PCX doesn't show up every day so I'm happy with the price. Night & day difference from my Roughhouse.

I think you paid a good price for it. Of all the places i have been, Maui was one of the prettiest. Also, with that road that goes to Seven Sister's Falls that scooter should be the ride of your life. We take ours on rides in the mountains and the roads curve quite a lot, which is great!

Thanks. The island economy does funny things to prices. Cost of goods is high due to our remote location and shipping cost, but then when people are moving off island and are up against time pressure to sell off possessions you might just be able to score a deal on a PCX.

I'm definitely looking forward to riding out to Hana. Next weekend hopefully.

Take a look at our seat thread. I got a great seat from Thailand for $100 USD shipped and they are willing to move the back support rearward for taller folks. The hump seat is horrible. Now I can ride for hours comfortably.

That looks great. Is that back support further rearward than the stock hump? I just emailed them about costs to Maui. Thanks for the info.

Their stock back supports begins about 5/8" back from where the hump begins. Maui is closer!

I went ahead and ordered a seat from MP Motor. Fingers crossed my experience is as positive as yours. This stock seat is really not sized for a 6 footer.

You're right Maui is closer to Thailand, unfortunately the Merchant Marine Act prevents any ship sailing under a non-US flag from docking at more than one US port. Meaning any goods from the far East will go to the US mainland first, then the cargo is unloaded and Hawaii bound goods are re-loaded on a ship flying under the US flag simply to backtrack 2500 miles to the islands. This is one of the main factors in the high cost of goods here. I suppose this law made sense back in the 20s or 30s when it was implemented but it seems outdated and protectionist in the light of current day.

Seat was $60 USD and cheapest shipping option was $65 USD. So overall, assuming it gets here and is good quality, a fair price.
