hi, i ride all year :-0 , -3 or 26.6 yesterday!! and i will agree hands are the weak point especially with wind chill....

i have

Givi tall screen
Plastic hand guards
heated inner gloves (on their way)

Making do with old cheap ski gloves with rain proof outer gloves on top, or army surplus fur lined gor tex mitts (£10 off ebay). I can add an extra inner liner to help even more if needed. Both seem to work at near zero temp and 30-40 commutes. Good advice is to have gloves or mitts a bit larger than your hand - as the extra air gap helps warm things up. Trouble with my leather armoured gloves is that leather seems to hold the cold air and being a snug fit, makes things worse.

Still considering getting the plastic hand guards. My mittens are as thick as i'm willing to go. Gloves are out of the question for keeping my fingers warm. Did purchase hand warmers. have yet to try them.

I wear leather gauntlets all year, with securing wrist straps to insure that they stay on throughout the drama and physics of an " off", for protection. For cold weather riding I want to keep that same protection. Looking at battery or plug in electric liners.
My concern with large mittens is that they would likely depart my hands....mid-off. Yes?

The luxury of the Venture Heat electric glove liners for $80 is indescribable until you try it. Even if you never go for the over priced jack and pants liners. The glove liners will almost burn your fingers at 30F if you wear a real ski mitten over them. Most days you will still wear a normal, full protection moto glove over them and be toasty.

It will pay you back over time. You can save 60% over any car on your gas bill by riding the PCX.

Hardly anybody would put enough miles on their bikes to recoup the savings. When you add up the cost of the bike, maintenance, insurance, extra gear and any additional modifications, it would take many years if ever to reach the break even point. Actual savings on gas looks good, but doesn't tell the whole story.

I have 17,000 miles on my pcx. At a lifetime of 100 mpgUS One rear tire $50. The front is still good. 5 quarts of oil. That's 170 gallons. $510 in gas. At today's super low price of $3. it was closer to $4 for most of those miles.

19,000 miles on my CBR250R at 91 mpgUS. One rear tire $75. The front is still good. 12 quarts of oil and some valve shims. That's 209 gallons. $627

$1137 in gas to go 36,000 miles.

A car costs $20,000. A PCX is $4,000. This is the future (and present in more than half the world) of personal transportation.

An exceptional car gets 40 mpg. 36,000 miles = $ 2160. My winter gear is paid for twice.

I live in KC and my Forza has been hooked up to my Battery Tender since at least Halloween and hasn't moved. When I had my Harley, I had the heated gear, but my Forza is for warm weather fun. I think I stopped riding once it hit 55 degrees. No regrets.

I put about 10000 miles on my Forza last year that I would've ordinarily put on my car. Factor in just the price of gas and I saved about $1450.00. Factor in insurance, maintenance, registration etc. I saved about $800 in one year.

At that rate it will take about 10 years and 100000 miles before I break even.

Any joy ridding you do on your scooter actually counts against your gas saving if it's miles you wouldn't ordinarily have put on your car.

For me, public transport (underground) was £1500/yr. I will need to use the tube/bus for some of the winter period as I will not ride when it gets icey/snowy.
PCX cost £2700, insurance £330 (20yr no claim, first time ride, third party only!), gear about £250, tax about £20, CBT £200 (had to do it a few times to get my balance), petrol about £150/yr, first service £85 - plan to do the rest myself.
So, 2 yr cost of PCX about £4000 with other small bits and pieces. Resale value, maybe £1500. I just about recoup the cost if I get £1500 for it in 2 years or keep it going for 3-4 years. That's also hoping I do not have an accidents as that wipes our best part of £1000 with 3rd party.
It's useful for parking, for filtering in heavy traffic (only real advantage in the UK), but in London with public transport, it's a difficult choice to make. I also cannot go on the motorways at present or with this bike.
