33 Degree F. ride

3.75 hours ride at 33 F. this morning.
Great to get out again.
Discovered old hand warmers are poop for shelf life.....only fingers were cold.
Oil level staying the same, although the weep hole shows evidence of loss - with small area of oily filth.
2400 miles with 3 oil & filter changes to date, so cannot see any long term oil loss. Or coolant loss.

I change the oil & filter in my 1800cc & 2200cc VWs at @3000 miles..... do the same to my 279cc scoot at @1000 ,or less.
I suspect that might make some folks feel angry, or guilty ......
S'OK.. ..most scooter owners have pretty thick hide.

Hi Fish,

Cool photos. We had warmer temperatures by us today. So, we took advantage of it

John getting ready to ride in his deer hunting attire earlier today.Was near 40 degrees F. I kept the home fires burning.

Later in the day we go to our favorite coffee shop. Temp is near 44. Now at 10:00 PM Its 48 degrees F. and climbing. By morning it will be 50 with a high near 53. How cool is that! As long as it dont rain, hope to ride

Its been -2 dec C here for a few days and am skittish about riding when below freezing. Wiped out once on ice about 10 years ago. I cant wait for it to warm up.

@MikeP - Ice would be the last thing I would want to encounter on my scoot. We did have to navigate around piles of salt in the road.

It tskes some brave souls to ride in below freezing weather. You never know where the black ice might be. We are fair weather riders. It is 53 out right now, which would be good for me, but not necessarily my wife, unless she put on some long underwear. I have added my wind blockers again this year (where the incomplete V is in the plastic in the turn signal area) but we haven't tested them yet. My down time is coming to an end soon, so when the doctor says i can ride again we will be taking the bikes out for a test run.

Did you get the rear drive bearing sorted on your wife's bike?

Yes, as a matter of fact we did. Now i see that there have been several others that have had that problem, and even some new cases have happened. Our mechanic and the mechanic at the previous shop we had been going to both said they had worked on at least 2 bikes with this problem. That would be 4 bikes within a 20 mile area. I have to wonder how widespread this problem really is.

Good point Mel re. the black ice....
So, I never ride unknown roads when below freezing....
and have been known to take the car out to check even the known roads in real iffy conditions...if all looks well come back and take out the scooter.
I also never ride unknown roads after dark - for the same reasons.
Does this limit my riding? Sure - but I've still managed to put nearly 3000 miles on my new Forza since late summer....with about 500 on my Kymco scooter.
Simply cannot understand all those used scooters on the market, years old - with barely several hundred miles on them?

Please keep taking your camera on your rides and posting pictures of your outings.
Scooter pictures are the next best thing to scooter info....and often better than that!

Getting ready to take off again. Temps are 60 degrees F. And don't have to wear the balaclava. Felt good.

At the coffee shop admiring our scoots across the road. Overcast sky. Not a problem though. On the way home got a few drops of rain. But, didn't get wet.
