How cold will you ride?

Re: How cold will you ride?
Brrrrrr. I found a red/black one with hi-viz patches for $40. Not quite as good as the yellow/orange/pink fluorescent but a lot better than black. Seems to be popular for red scooter owners in the US and on military bases where vests are required.

CLASH is exactly what I want!
I very rarely spot myself in a reflection....and then I just check out my scoot's cool lights.
Wax your scoot and admire it from a lawn chair....then get on it and be as visible as possible!!
I figure that I'm riding a scooter in the land of cars and Harley Davidson....so I'm already pretty weird....and I'm OK with whatever "they're" thinking...cause I'm having so blasted much fun.

Just did 36 miles on the Forza for a lunch time work break. Sunny, windless, and 49 F. It was beautiful. Ran the Mobius for about 10 miles.
Still breaking it in but did the highway at 65 mph for about 5 miles. Very smooth.

Re: How cold will you ride?
Can't help with the fingers....but my 2 balaclavas keep my chin warm.Aberdeen Scoot wrote:Out for an hour this afternoon in -5 degrees but got to cold so heades home. Mostly finger tips and my under chin
One is light weight material over the head, with a nice long bib front and back to cover the neck (this style was pretty hard for me to find!) . The other is heavy material.....on very cold days I wear both.

Re: How cold will you ride?
@SECoda - DAB is right about the florescent pink being the replacement for florescent yellow and orange. But, fluorescent yellow still works really well. I purchased my jacket at a place called Sport Bike Track Gear. They are a national mail order company that happens to be located right by my work. My jacket is 1st Gear. I don't care for the vest as much since only the torso is hi-viz. adding in the arms, such as with a jacket, give you better visibility. Even hi-viz gloves add to your visibility. Fish is a smart guy!
@Homie - I noticed the additions to the evolve line up.

I dunno - there are things worse than getting run over.
I take my chances with the Hi-Viz red w/ reflective patches.

@SECoda - That not florescent pink. I bought a $70 hi-viz vest and not long after that got my hi-viz riding jacket.

Well - if I see one of the guys wearing it on Sons of Anarchy I will order it on the spot.
When I Google them I never see a male in the pictures (ok maybe a few but...).
Homie - The image is still there.... I renamed it for the upload.
Just say no!

Re: How cold will you ride?
I'm considering a vest made from mesh that has some wide yellow reflective bands. Funny thing is, on the back it has an inscription "POLSKA" (POLAND in English
) which is quite similar to "POLICJA" written on Police high visibility vests.
vs
When You see someone with "POL...something" ahead on the bike you seriously consider slowing down. At least until you get closer and read the full test.
Unfortunately I'm riding with a backpack so the effect would not be that strong...

Below freezing by me. Did see a motorcycle after dark today.
Re: How cold will you ride?
Well Friday doesn't sound so good now.
Saturday, Sunday, Monday sound promising.
Friday
Warmer...rain. High in the lower to mid 50s. Light wind. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

68F very light drizzle today but I didn't see any other cycles on on the highway to or from work. About 800,000 people in this hipster town. By light drizzle I mean I didn't get a drop, but the roads were slightly damp.

Re: How cold will you ride?
Mid 30's this morning....damp roads and 90% chance of steady rain...Close enough!....so I took off for my coffee village.(took the day off & not to waste it!)
4 WalMart chemical warmers ....one in ea. shirt pocket..one in each palm. Worked? better than nothing.
Brought home giant blueberry muffins from the Dog and learned the street fellow's name.
When my hands warm up will go out and finish the valve adjustment on my Kymco scooter and give the Forza a rinse & wipe.
All scoot's vavles should be so easy.

Going thru town shot some more Christmas lights while waiting out a train in the distance.

From clear down the street the rims picked up the camera flash.

Re: How cold will you ride?
Had a vacation day today and it was 40 F. today. So, went to our favorite coffee house. Most important is a new product I discovered to keep our tootsies warm. Made by the same people that make the hand warmers. I did use the hand warmers in my mittens today. Didn't have to use the tootsie warmer today. But, if were colder I sure would have!
This opens new possibilities for cold weather riding. Was having troubles keeping the feet warm. Only thing left now is my thumbs. Got everything else covered for the most part.

Re: How cold will you ride?
Getting mighty cold now in the UK, but army surplus fleece lined mitts working fine of for 1deg riding in town. As I discovered, it's not so much the cold or heavy rain that I find the worse, but as of this mornings commute (it was raining all the way in) it's strong winds. Even when stopped at junctions waiting for traffic to pass, it was tough keeping myself and the bike upright, and side and head winds when riding were a real pain. Be even worse on large open roads on the light-weight PCX.
