Don't cry for me.................

Post by Monty1952 »

Its a sad day when I went out this morning and realized its over for the year. While the majority of the roads are dry, there were quite a few bits that were wet from precip yesterday and were very much frozen solid. It is -10 with wind chill and Canada Einstein - lol. With a fair bit of snow in forecast its clean, stabilizer, battery out etc., etc. As a newbie to two wheels motorized (couple months) its painful and any advice from experienced folks that does not involve booze or self medication is welcome! OK reality is I have a "honey do" list so just tell me to suck it up and get on with that!

Makes it all the better in the spring, winter is a time of cleansing to me. I lived in Florida for 15 years and seriously endless summer gets old. Nothing every dies or goes dormant, mow, trim, bugs, bake and never just stops. One day you realize you don't notice the palms and never go to the beach anymore then there is that laziness that comes with the heat. Eventually a hurricane will knock things down and you do some work but after a couple of those you've had enough. I'm glad I went south early in life and there's no lure to go back down in retirement. Just bury me in the snow I live for the seasons! LIFE IS GOOD

What a nice perspective. So very true, I live by the beach and have not been down there in over 6 months! Yikes

We are the same - but with a minus sign in front of these figures and about 8 inches of snow today! It has been put to sleep now and under cover until March probably or maybe even April.

At 5:15am today, my cell told me "23 degrees F, feels like 13"
Well, gumby......it's a bit cooler than that sitting a scooter seat for 13 miles & 45 mins!
But, I'm not complaining - because I was sitting a scooter seat!

I felt the standard Dunlops getting a little squirely on me at about -10C (+14F) temperatures. Not really bad but what is basically summer compound rubber just a little hard at these temps. Helped convince me that even if roads clear in our winter that it was sleepy time time for me Forza!

Stop and start through the city streets....up to 35-40mph.
But the next day, RATS, even colder and had to do 40.-50mph for quite a few miles, to my coffee village....for enjoyment. Truly do enjoy that ride , no matter the weather. Cold and rainy for last Fridays ride.
I have it on the QT, that Santa is bringing me some Gerbing's for my hands as of yesterday!!!
If they work....what a treat it will be to have warm hands for the entirety of the ride on my Forza!
Fish
PS, no issues with the Dunlops in the cold. ....at least not the way I ride, summer or winter.
Nothing to do with my age. Always have driven as though I'm relaxed and know the fellow who has to buy the parts and service. Speed , for me, has nothing to do with enjoying the
machine. And, yes I'm aware how unamerican that is!

Going 50 mph. in below freezing temps one must be prepared. 45 and 60 would be the average speeds I would be going if I were traveling to work on my scoot. So far I'm willing to cruise on my scoot in cold weather at my convenience. :D Also a little dark in the mornings during this time of the year and my work is in deer country. o_O

Don't think I'll bother with that. Jump in the car and put the heated seats on....
