30,000 mile update......

It's been 2yrs and 3 months since I purchased a 2013 PCX150 and am happy to report after 30,000 absolutely trouble free miles, I could not be more pleased with my purchase, still averaging 100 mpg. Michellin City Grips are a must when it comes time for new rubber. Just wanted to give an update about the incredible reliability of this scoot. I am curious as to how long it will go before a major failure. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Can I ask what maintenance you actually did generally vs the schedule? Valve adjustments, etc.

Wow! 30K miles. We bought our first one (we have two) in August of 2012 and we have almost 11K miles on ours. You have a great advantage in that you live were it is almost always nice out. We would be riding all the time if we lived there too. We have talked and talked and talked about moving to Florida. However, there are several things that stop us. First and foremost is the added cost of everything down there. It is my understanding that there is no state income tax there. That would explain why everything is more expensive. I know that the individual doesn't control taxes, so i am not upset or anything like that. It is just that i am on a fixed income, so anything my wife and i do has to be calculated and discussed to the nth degree, and if we move, it will be the last move.

Meanwhile, keep on riding and let us know if the bike ever has any problems you feel we should know about.

I change the oil every 3-4K miles. Just put on my third belt. Changed front disk and break pads at 27,000 miles because I let the break pads go too long. There is some wear on my stock variator that limits me to about 66 mph that I need to address. I know variators are a highly objectionable topic here, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm in SW Florida and am blessed that it's riding season year 'round. The terrain is flat as a pancake here so climbing hills is a non issue for me. I'm happy with the stock set up but if there's a legitimate upgrade in variators to get a bit more pep on take off as well as a few mph top speed, I'm all ears. Slinders with ??? variator. I've never inspected the valves, it runs and sounds perfect, why mess with it?

Just had my cars first service. 20,000 miles and a oil and filter change and general inspection. £138.40.

How many miles are you getting out of tires?
I am at about 7k miles and replacing the rear. Front seems to have a lot of life left

Did you change the belt before problems appeared? If you experienced problems with the belt, what were they?

I'm getting 8-10k miles on a rear tire and 13-15k on the front. I never had a belt failure or problem, just changed the belt when I'd lose 4-5 mph.

You should do the valve adjustment. The first sign of trouble will be a tight valve after it is burned and will require a new head. Idid mine at 4,000 miles and will check them again sometime this winter since I now have 18,000 miles. My belt is also cracked so I have a new belt, Vario, and face and I will reuse my sliders. It's interesting how plastic can wear metal.

the PCX is an extremely common vehicle here and the honda shop mechanics deal with a gazillion of them. they never check the valves on these here in japan unless there is some reason to think it needs to be done.

They are remiss not to at least check them every 10,000 miles. Because Honda made the bodywork so hard to get in there. Otherwise it would be a twenty minute job since it has screw adjusters.

Well they don't check them and the service manual doesn't give valve check intervals interestingly. It should be noted that 125cc bikes are a dime a dozen here and they have a ton of experience with small Honda engines. When the head mechanic at my local flagship Honda Dream motorcycle shop tells me we won't check them unless there are signs it needs to be done I trust his expertise and experience.
