Pro Honda recommended fluids & spark plug...

Post by homie »

These are the proprietary Honda products recommended for PCX as of the 2013-15 service manual. Are they anything special... I doubt it but if anything can be damaged by using other fluids or spark plugs at least you will know it wasn't your choices :D Honda doesn't specify their brake fluid in the SM other than "DOT 3 or 4" however they do offer Pro Honda Brake Fluid DOT 4 in 12 oz. Not sure why they specify everything but their own brake fluid.

The HP4M has moly . The Honda engineers are specific on this for some reason ( I even called Honda corporate , who advised it's use especially in the final drive). Some members will say too "just put whatever you want in thar"..... . I commend you for researching . I'm confident most members here are not engineers , me included , go with Honda specs , there's nothing wrong with your logic .

Be sure to check the wet and dry boiling points of whichever brake fluid you choose ( Honda specs).

It does seem like Honda has something to say that might not be just a sales pitch on the label. It's Honda's logic and explanations for their additives in these products that caught my attention. I would hope the dealers use the SM recommendations as well but I know for a fact they don't because my first oil change I did myself but I went directly to a Honda dealership to be handed some other over priced product. My advice would to be not buy your oils and chemicals from the dealer and shop online for the Service Manual recommended products listed above and pay less in the process.

The thanks goes to GN for insisting everyone use the SM recommendations for oils and chems. I had my doubts too but why give Honda a reason to say something fails prematurely because you used wrong additives in your oil or radiator fluid.

I'm not saying that the HONDA fluids are the bomb.com......but because our scooters use so little, and most of you guys replace them so infrequently - I don't understand the fuss. Put the good (correct) stuff in your scooter.
Of course I really do understand the fuss here....because this is the place where some advocate never checking the valve lash since it never needs it (a n d ...it just happens to be a RPITA) "Until it starts popping corn down there, why bother?")
Honda fluids for my scooter because I really like this scooter.

I thought some have said their dealers do not always stock or cannot get the Honda recommended stuff (hard to get the final drive oil?). I thought I read that recently.

I seem to recall that the oil for a PCX final drive is the same oil as goes in the engine.

The same HP4M Pro Honda 10W-30 oil is used in the Forza engine and final drive.
Seems to me it would be a pretty sketchy dealer who sold new Hondas but did not carry the Honda lubricants and coolants.....but then I know nothing about what Honda requires of their dealers.

Again gn2 is correct, the term 'final drive' is how Honda describes our PCX gear oil. Although Honda sells its own proprietary gear oil we don't need it as PCX owners. I will remove the image immediately... sorry  and anyone who has a Goldwing give me a shout out and I will mail you free Pro Honda gear oil

I mentioned HP4M when I bought my 2015 this past November and was chastised by several members . Glad to see this thread regarding proper fluids .

Final drive or final reduction , SM advises of HP4M regardless of some members differing opinion . The engineers of Honda specify this lube . Some shade tree members here advocate. ...."just put what-cha want in thar ".....just like the engine.

It's not shade-tree, it's what the manual says.

The same engine oil is fine in the final drive gears.

Well aware of what Honda recommends , it's other's who have advised in different threads to put in different rather than spec., Not I . And yes , the SM does say to use HP4M in the final drive

Help me homie! I'm looking all over www, tis hard to find spec fluids. I'm wondering if you bought (2015 PCX) recommended oil from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC? I haven't seen it anywhere else  Did you get the other fluids there as well?
Or did you shop/order at your local Honda dealer?
Hmm, :? I missed something along the way, didn't I? (place a dizzy emoticon/smiley inside here: > <)

These were all shopped online, I don't know if my dealer had them or not. I worked off the 2015 PCX service manual.
