Centre stand trouble.

Centre stand trouble.
I had reason to remove the rear wheel on my PCX. It was possible for me to examine the centre stand mount. Sure enough the casing was cracked where the stand pivots.
I assume there is no way to repair this because of the material. Should I just use the side stand in future? I have always preferred the centre stand. The centre stand has always been used by me, but I have not had the bike long. It is a 2012 model but has been subject to some repair because of a previous accident. It is class D.
There was no way I could have discovered this when I inspected the bike. It only came to light by accident. I have heard of reports of centre stand troubles so made the inspection while I could.

Original or an eSP...?
Is it definitely cracked or is it just the flashings from the casting?
The lugs can be rapaired if you can find someone who can weld alloy.
If there's no oil leakage from the cracks, best to take the stand off and just use the sidestand.

I would affirm gn2's last sentence. Remove it and be done with it. If it hasn't cracked the casting yet so that it is leaking, count yourself lucky. Don't tempt fate.

Definetely a crack, just in the lower part of the hole forming the pivot for the stand. No leaks. I am sure the case is not affected.
I thought of just continuing to use the stand until it broke. I never though it might affect the casing, I just assumed that when it broke it would just make the stand unusable. I will leave it on but only use the side stand.
It would be very difficult to weld, even if I could find someone.

Easy way to tell eSP from original is the airbox.
eSP model has an eSP badge on the airbox.
The eSP engine has bracing to the stand lugs.

This is what you look out for to determine if it is an esp version.

Thank's mine is an original then.
Just had a closer look and there is a slight trace of oil near the drain plug bolt. I hope it is just a new washer that is needed on the plug bolt.
There is no oil near the centre stand casing crack. I will just leave the stand where it is and try and avoid using the centre stand as much as possible.

I will have to remove the stand or I will loose the broken peice (just in case I can find a welder.)

Nope, no recall.
Honda offereed to pay for the parts but not the labour to fix mine when it broke after the warranty expired.
Given that the labour charge was going to be almost what the scooter was worth I declined their offer.
If it had broken during the warranty it would have been repaired free of charge.
Got my Forza back on Friday, it had been in for the fuel pump recall, waterpump seal warranty repair and 16,000 mile service.
It had already had a replacement brake disc, pads and brake light switch under warranty.
I doubt I will be buying a Thai built Honda again.
Have only had the Forza 18 months and am already thinking about getting something else.

Do yourself a favour. Remove the stand and never put it back on. Eliminate the temptation to ever set your PCX on its centre stand.Keith wrote:... it is much more serious than I thought. Removing the stand also eliminates the risk of the stand catching on something and tearing a hole out the crankcase at the one good mounting lug if the scooter gets dropped.....

Found a firm who are willing to TIG weld the broken lug.
Before doing so he has asked me to contact Honda to se if it would have any effect on the electrics or any module,as he puts it, if the work was done in situ. I will do this but wondered if any poster here has any views or experience on this?

Some help from a local Honda dealer was to disconnect the battery and the ECM. Asking more he did not know how to disconnect the ECM and thought the ECM was the Electronic control Module. I have searched and think it is the Engine control Module.
