30,000 mile update......

Re: 30,000 mile update......
You don't need to check the valves, you don't need to worry about every little thing, chances are the ridiculous things you think you hear are actually inside your head. Buy it, run the piss out of it and it will continue to go.

Re: 30,000 mile update......
When I was first looking to buy my first PCX, I found his forum through Google - and found some great advice. It really did influence my decision in buying a PCX.
I can't help thinking that anyone new who finds THIS thread in a similar manner is gonna be getting some bad advice.
Ignore valve adjustment? Really?

Re: 30,000 mile update......
Don't ignore it, but there seems to be no need to do it as often as 2500 miles.
If a Forza is good for 16000 miles it should be safe enough to check a PCX at 10000...?
Mine has just been done and no adjustments were required.

Re: 30,000 mile update......
Even on the Silver Wing forum they have a maintenance guideline someone wrote up that suggests you don't do a valve adjustment until you hear a change in the engine. I think of it like medical procedures. Is the risk from the procedure greater than from some illnesses or issues. In this case does having the VA done cause more problems than not doing it. I suspect that is true for some mileage limit other than the suggested interval in the manual which is somewhat frequent based on the histories posted even just on this forum.
My brother's Kymco Agility has a frequent oil service interval in the manual compared to a PCX much less a Forza. I wonder what is up with that. IN fact most of the schedule is accelerated compared to Honda.

Kymco also has twice the (fully transferable,) warranty - -2yrs.tbln930 wrote:Even on the Silver Wing forum they have a maintenance guideline someone wrote up that suggests you don't do a alve adjustment until you hear a change in the engine. Kymcos are sold in a lot of rugged places across the globe....and are not the Luxe scooters like Honda.....but are often basic, family transport....freq cheap servicing is the way to protect the family's investment. Stay on top of the valves, change the hardworking oil often and ride the snittzle out of it with the whole gang holding on!

Re: 30,000 mile update......
The "off the record" advice I received from both of my Honda Powersports dealers on the PCX valve adjustments vary from the manual service intervals quite a bit and are very close to each other. They both sell a lot of scoots. One said at least 5000 miles and the other said about 7500 miles unless something is sounding or acting strange. I think it is good advice. They both said they would take my money if I insisted. I'll stick with that.

Re: 30,000 mile update......
Once at 2,000 miles to make sure the valve clearance is dead on after break in and then every 7,500 is reasonable. Telling someone to never check the valves unless it starts running bad very bad advice.

Re: 30,000 mile update......
The dealers both say at least 5000 miles the first time. Both said 600 or 2500 is too soon.

Would that be the sound of the engine blowing itself uptbln930 wrote:Even on the Silver Wing forum they have a maintenance guideline someone wrote up that suggests you don't do a valve adjustment until you hear a change in the engine.

I'm not sure this is worth fussing over, as I've been riding since July of last year and I'm at about 1,300 miles, so this would be roughly a once a year thing.

And that is on a twin. The valve check must be expensive and/or difficult.

I don't think the comparison between the Forza & PCX is valid.gn2 wrote:Don't ignore it, but there seems to be no need to do it as often as 2500 miles.

Mine has just been done and no adjustments were required.
Forza valve adjustment is with shims, PCX screw & locknut. Modern shim bike intervals are typically much longer than older, lower tech screw & locknut, because they need checking less often.
