I think it was because it's not recommended with fuel injection.

Re: Kickstarter. Why isn't it stock on our bikes?
.
Fuel Injected bikes and scooters don't come with kick starters.
.
Part of problem is you have to have a minimum voltage at the battery or the ECU and FI will not work.
.
Not sure what that voltage is for the PCX.
.
Also, adding kick starter cost money, adds weight, and drag on transmission parts.
.
So, if battery is dead, kick starter would probably not work anyhow.
.
Hope that helps.

Or not worry and if it does in say 8 years time buy another battery $30
I like the not worrying bit.

For most bikes anyway. My girlfriend's Metropolitan is EFI and has a kickstarter.

Not really sure how well that works.
.
IF the scoot is fuel injected it uses a fuel pump to to get fuel to the injector under pressure.
The fuel pump requires a certain and constant voltage to pump.
If your battery is dead-dead, I don't think a kick starter would work.
.
Maybe on the Metropolitan they have figured a way around this, I don't know.
.
If your battery has enough voltage to work the fuel pump, the kick starter might work OK.

Early Yamaha c3's (fuel injected) also had a kick-starter but it was removed on later versions.

Because this is the 21st century. Cars gave up on hand cranks in the 1930s. The question maybe should be why did it take so long for kickers to stop being fitted to bikes.Branyers wrote:Kickstarter. Why isn't it stock on our bikes?

Because after sitting for 6 months, my '70 Triumph will start on 1 kick. And I don't worry about the battery's health. Those Land Rovers that survived in the African bush had crank starters for the same reason - no battery, bad starter, no problem!speedandstyle wrote:Because this is the 21st century. I carry motorcycle jumper cables, it's like a small size book.
The reason they don't come with them is that the added cost, complexity and weight does not justify based on the need.
The same reason applies as to why we don't have an spare wheel like Vespas used to have, or the kickstarter for a car.
