New GoPro
My wife bought me a GoPro! What are some interesting things to do with it on the scoot? I do plan to record all of my services; is that better suited to a normal camera? The GoPro has the distinct advantage of being head-mountable during service.

Other than record your rides, nothing really comes to mind.mtheall wrote:My wife bought me a GoPro! What are some interesting things to do with it on the scoot?
So you plan to stand behind your mechanic with your helmet on? Or do you plan to service it yourself? If so, a tripod might be better. Not to mention the fisheye lens might not be best for that kind of recording.I do plan to record all of my services; is that better suited to a normal camera? I don't know about Go-Pro other than it's the pricey action cam but it surely comes with great software configuration features... you will most likely be able to opt out of wide angle with just a click in the programing utilities.mtheall wrote:And yeah the fisheye was the main issue I was thinking about.

Welcome to the club!
You should record all of your rides. For insurance purposes and also in case you want to start Motovlogging:
http://www.motovlog.com
While I don't vlog as such, I make these videos of all the stupid moves people come out with on the road:

Edit: so it won't let me post links here? Anyway, just google RoyalJordanian, and check out Motovlog to see what I'm talking about.

RJ is my favorite! He's not a vlogger but great entertainment. I have a go pro. Check out my winter scoot ride. The go pro is excellent for servicing videos.Sacha wrote:Welcome to the club!

Re: New GoPro
Any good mounting positions for the front of the helmet?
I would think if I mounted right below the visor, you'd hear my breathing all throughout the recording. Above looked appetizing until I gave more thought about opening the visor and having it smack into the camera. I'm not a fan of the top and side positions because I figured there'd be drag on it at highway speeds. Plus I would think a front mount would still let me store my helmet under my seat.

Wow! you got to ride near RJ? That in itself is incredible. He's like a Rock Star. I subbed your channel. Excellent video really entertaining. My video start at my house and goes to Grosse Point. The majority of our ride is on a road called Jefferson Ave. This road is featured in Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino.Sacha wrote:Nice vid! Where is this?

Re: New GoPro
It is a video camera and can be used to record anything. Granted the extreme wide-angle lens will be a problem for some things but you can crop in and correct for a lot of that with software. A go-pro mounted on a vest/chest harness would give a POV perspective, great for a how-to repair tutorial! POV stands for "point-of-view", gamers call it "first-person".
Depends on where you post them - some places will pay good money for them!you you wrote:mtheall wrote:Service myself.

Chin mount is quite popular these days, I considered trying it out myself.Valiant wrote:Any good mounting positions for the front of the helmet?

Gran Torino has been on my list for a while, I better watch it now to see if I recognise the road.
Have you ever had any issues riding on icy roads? Which tyres do you use?
