Iceman, just seen the vid. If you are going to try this maybe put the impact bit in and hold in place with some pliers. Then heat the bit, I think this way the end weights will not get so hot.

Haven't got a blow-torch, and not buying an impact drill for £70, so may stick a lighter to the 'bit' and see what happens. I was considering going to the dealer ans asking them to take a look, spend 5 minutes sorting this ridiculous situation. No need to fix them as tight as this!

Why not go to any local mechanics shop, maybe one you use for car? And ask if they will do it for you? Throw them a few bucks. Won't take them that long, right? Do you know anyone with a blow torch? Can you rent one from a Rent a Tool shop? Maybe Home Depot? Just a few thoughts.

When I took them off, the screw head was very tight, and the volume required inside the bar to affect the Loctite is, I guess a few cm3. Not sure but the lube may even travel to the centre of the handle bars.

Loctite should shock release. That's why I suggested just putting the bit in and clouting it a couple of times. Good practice before using an impact driver. Horse to water.

If it's still not coming off it could be corrosion, hence the releasing oil over an extended period. Diesel is just as good tbh.

It seems the ends of the screws can be drilled out and the bar end slid off - is this true? If so it seems a good way to remove them as I'm going to replace the screws with hex bolts (alan) or security screws - no glue! Also, if the above is valid, can someone advise what size and length bolts are needed to replace the ones I drill out? Thanks.

You will still have to get the rest of the screw out. Wouldn't do it myself.
The bar end weight will slide of though. What guards are you going to get?

Not sure about the guard - maybe storm, cheap one off Ebay (wind protection rather than crash) or just a bar to support bar mitts (stop them pressing on the levers).
I was led to believe that with 2/3rd's inch of screw exposed, it's easy to grip with large pliers (half inch jaws) and turn without fear of the thread getting chewed. Also a fair bit of metal exposed to heat up to loosen the loctite without burning the end of the current bar end. Any idea of size of replacement bolt/screw needed? (need to get a spare ready before I try this).
