155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
LYamaha makes very good stuff - every bit the equal of Big Red and the SMax looks like pretty tough competition for the little PCX.
Can the Yamaha really do 84 on the freeway?!....and at $100 less MSRP with screen?!

Given that it produces a measly 14bhp, highly unlikely.fish wrote:Can the Yamaha really do 84 on the freeway?!

Maybe if you go downhill?
I know Honda claimed the PCX could go 70 mph, but it doesn't have the gearing/RPM ceiling to go that fast.

Re: 155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
The PCX 150 has 153cc's, so the Yamaha only has 2cc's more. I very much doubt that it can reach 84 mph on a level road with no tailwind.
Today we took a long ride to South Carolina and back...250 miles in all. Our speeds were between 55 and the limiter, which was 65 sometimes, 67 at other times, and 55 going up the mountains. We ran both bikes wide open for the majority of the trip. Luckily, I changed the oil on both bikes last night because it was 91° F and we stayed at full throttle throughout the trip. At no point did our PCX 150s ever reach 70. My bike has a little over 4k miles on it, and my wife's bike has around 14k miles, so they are both broken in. Mine has the 13gm rollers installed, but they made no difference in top end. Essentially, I see NO WAY that an engine with just 2 more cc's can top out 17 mph higher than a PCX 150.

Re: 155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
I agree. Took my PCX 150 out on the river roads this weekend. And, if I duck down/flatten out behind the stock fairing a bit, I can hit a solid 65. But I hear the speedo is about 2 mph optimistic? Not sure, but theres no way their bike goes 15 mph faster, unless they figured out how to take away the rider ;P

I did exactly 84 MPH on my CBR 125R once. Full race tuck, going downhill, with a slight tail wind.

Re: 155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
I'm sure the SMAX is a nice scooter.
It has slightly more horsepower than a PCX. It's also a bit heavier. Wheels are smaller, I think, on an SMAX, which would be a minus in my book.
From what I've read, it seems that the SMAX can do 5-10 mph more than a typical PCX can on the highway. If it can indeed do 84 mph, that's impressive. That would probably mean you could cruise at 70-75 on flat terrain. Hills probably knock that way down, as in the end, you still only have 155cc pushing you along.
The SMAX has flaws like any other scoot. The seating position looks weird to me...knees real close to the dash or cowl. Seat pretty much locks you in one position.
I like the fuel filler location. I wouldn't mind an extra 5 mph out of my PCX.
The SMAX is pricier than a PCX, new. You can usually walk out the door with a new PCX for 3 grand-ish, if you shop at the right time. Less if you're lucky and or get a leftover last year model.
I think a Burgie 200 or Forza would make more sense than a SMAX if one's goal was to improve on the performance of the PCX on the open road.

The Forza 125 can touch 80mph, so it's a possibility.

Re: 155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
In a year or 2 there will be aftermarket exhausts and variators for the Forza, and if they do what they did for my PCX, it will be quite the awesome sport touring scooter. I hope they offer it or a larger version in the US. I looked at all o the videos for the Smax and the riding position looks somewhat ridiculous but the all of the testers love the performance.

Yeah, the riding position looks, um, sub-optimal, shall we say.

Well, was driving @70 this morning on 275 near Tampa .....and a scooter that sure looked like an Smax went cruising by us in the middle lane. He had to be doing mid to high 70's.
Half helmet, shorts and flip flops....of course. 90°F.
Looked just like the one I sat on in Ohio a few weeks ago.

Which bike are you referring to? I can't seem to find any mention of the Smax in that article.gn2 wrote:Can it?itcaptainslow wrote:The Forza 125 can touch 80mph

Re: 155cc = 84 MPH?!~!
He's referring to the Forza 125. The article would seem to mention a 71-ish mph GPS indicated speed.
Frankly speaking as a PCX 150 owner, I'm not sure why I would want to purchase a 125 if I was after more speed.

The PCX 150 is not available in most markets.Valiant wrote:Frankly speaking as a PCX 150 owner, I'm not sure why I would want to purchase a 125 if I was after more speed.
The current position is that the Forza 125 will not be released as a 150 because it is only for the European market.

80mph on the speedo. No idea what it is GPS, granted it's on the limiter when doing so.gn2 wrote:Can it fuck.itcaptainslow wrote:The Forza 125 can touch 80mph

I've done it on mine and also the dealership demo I took out. Why would I tell porkies on a forum about it?
